Let the Competitions Begin
The long wait is over and we are delighted to see a resumption of closed and open competitions at West Waterford GC. Golf’s protocol in Phase 3 will commence as scheduled on Monday 29th July. We have spent the last six weeks playing casual golf and becoming accustomed to the measures set out in the Government’s Roadmap for a phased return to golf. Players have had ample time to familiarize themselves with the protocol which of course continues to be observed on an ongoing basis. Our first competition takes place on Saturday and Sunday and Sunday,

Getting ready for Club Competitions
It’s been just over five weeks since we started back on the golf course and what a time we have enjoyed. We were fortunate to be one of the first sports to make a return to action and members old and new combined to create an atmosphere in which we could feel safe while enjoying social golf to the full. The weather of course added to our enjoyment, and adherence to Covid-19 regulations was observed throughout. We have come to accept the GUI and ILGU protocol and hopefully will continue to stick to the guidelines

Come Sunday next June 21 the longest day of the year, we will have completed 5 weeks of casual golf. We will also see ourselves within one week of successfully negotiating two phases of the return to golf. If any sport lends itself to successful social distancing it has to be the game of golf. I suppose it’s not surprising that in a sport where etiquette and strict rules are generally adhered to, that the golfing community has been so successful in complying with the directives from the GUI and the HSE. Played in spacious surroundings, social distancing is not

Despite a significant drop in temperatures over the past week we still had a steady flow of members enjoying the delights of the tranquil surroundings of West Waterford golf club. Nice to see our new members out in force and becoming accustomed to the small ball in the company of their fellow sport lovers. During the next week a member will be in contact with you to answer any questions you may have regarding the etiquette and rules of the game and to help you with acquiring a handicap. Our policy at West Waterford is to involve all members in

Thank You and Well Done
Thanks to your cooperation we have successfully negotiated the first two weeks in Phase 1 of our return to golf. Management and members have combined their efforts in complying with the Protocol thereby ensuring the safety of all concerned. With one week remaining before we hopefully advance to Stage 2 it is vital that we all maintain and even increase our efforts in keeping in line with GUI and HSE guidelines. The worst thing that could happen is that we become complacent, so we must be constantly aware of our obligations. We are most fortunate

It’s Good to Be Back
After 8 weeks of closure West Waterford Golf Club reopened its gates on Monday May 18th. In line with the GUI protocol all was in readiness for the restart, and the new look 14 minute time sheet filled quickly. Whereas golf had stopped, nature continued its course and we returned to a stunning scene of mature trees in full bloom and a magical array of colour throughout the course. Our greenkeeping staff had fairways, rough and greens mowed to perfection as the sand glistened in the meticulously prepared bunkers. Even the weather obliged with sunshine

A Message from our President

As West Waterford Golf Club welcomes back our loyal members and take tentative baby steps towards normality, I wish to thank all for their support and patience during this difficult time. May I also salute all our front line workers who sacrifice their very existence to keep us safe. Please respect and adhere to the strict protocol in place, bearing in mind that this is just Phase 1 in a 5 phase journey.

Stay Safe. Pat Murphy President WWGC.

GUI and ILGU issue protocol for reopening of Golf Courses

Golf will resume on Monday May 18th on a limited basis under a strict GUI protocol following consultation with the relevant Government departments and State agencies in the Republic of Ireland. As one of the first sports to be allowed to resume, there is a major responsibility on golf clubs and golfers to ensure that our sport is conducted in a safe and responsible manner. Full adherence to the provisions of this Protocol is absolutely essential.

The biggest discussion point for golfers last week was the 5km travel rule.

Golf Courses Hoping to Reopen after May 5th if the government opt to lessen lockdown restrictions.

Golf is hoping to be one of the first sports to get the nod to resume after May 5th if the government opt to lessen lockdown restrictions. There has been a halt on all Irish sport for well over a month as the country gets to grips with the coronavirus pandemic, with the latest government restrictions set to remain in place until after the May Bank Holiday weekend. However, Chief Medical Officer Tony Holohan said in a press conference that the resumption
