After what has felt like a never ending cycle of rain and frost, the sun finally shone on West Waterford this week. As predicted, golfers eagerly emerged from their enforced hibernation to play their Round 3 matches, and the results sheets on the noticeboard are filling up nicely. As the week went on, the ground gradually firmed up and everyone agreed the course, and especially the greens, were in superb condition in spite of all the bad weather. Well done to Morrie, Ciaran and Tony for all their great work. A decision was taken early in the week to extend Round 3 by one more week until Sun Feb 5th. The forecast is for more settled weather this week, and no doubt the place will be teaming with golfers playing their remaining matches. Best of luck to all.

Seamus Power News

Seamus had a deserved break from his busy schedule this week. Well, that is if you consider travelling from Abu Dhabi, half-way around the world again, to the famous Pebble Beach Golf Course on the west coast of America to be time off. It’s all part of the deal when you’re in the top echelons of world golf, and I’m sure Seamus wouldn’t want it any other way. He will take his place at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am this week and will be hoping to recapture some of the form he showed here last year when he opened with a pair of outstanding 64s to lead going into the weekend. Best of luck, Seamus, from all in West Waterford!

Gary Hurley News

After having not played competitively since before Christmas, at the time of writing Gary is set to take his place in his first DP World Tour event of 2023, the Ras Al Khaimah Championship in Al Hamra GC in UAE. It will be interesting to see if Gary can replicate his good form from his first three tournaments after such a long break. If I know Gary, he has no doubt been preparing as well as possible to be ready. Of course, he also celebrated a milestone birthday this week turning 30 years of age. Birthday wishes Gary from all in West Waterford and best of luck for the coming week.
