Winter League Round 3 Matchplay

The team pairings are as follows: Cheetahs vs Rams, Bulls vs Sharks, Stallions vs Wolves, Bears vs Lions, Rhinos vs Stags, Leopards vs Tigers.

Another very quiet week for the Winter League due to the ongoing poor weather. The league has been affected by the weather in past years, but this must surely be the worst ever. The forecast for the coming week looks better and I’m sure lads will be itching to get back out to play a few holes! The matchplay round continues this week and hopefully there will be a flurry of activity with the majority of matches still to be played. Please continue to check the BRS system for course updates.

Seamus Power News

Following his exploits in the inaugural Hero Cup, Seamus remained in Abu Dhabi this week and took his place in the prestigious HSBC Championship, a Rolex Series event on the DP World Tour. Seamus began with an excellent round of 66 to be in touch with the leaders, but shot a relatively poor second round of +1 to fall back into the chasing pack. He comfortably made the cut however and two steady rounds over the weekend saw him finish in a very respectable tie for 20th place. Seamus will no doubt play a bit more on the DP World tour this year in his bid to make the Ryder Cup team in October.

Gary Hurley News

The DP World Tour makes the short trip to Dubai this week for the Hero Dubai Desert Classic. Unfortunately, Gary won’t be in the field for this Rolex Series event, but is hopeful of playing the following week at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship. The good thing for Gary is that this tournament is also in Abu Dhabi, so he won’t have to travel far from his base at Saadiyat Beach.

Playing Handicap for winter

For the duration of Winter Rules (Nov. – Mar.) the handicap committee has introduced a 90% handicap limit.  To facilitate this, when you sign-in, using the Playing Handicap Table posted at the sign-in desk, for your handicap index, simply check what your 90% playing handicap is from the table.  Please familiarise yourself with any temporary local rules during the Winter golf period.
