Comeragh Oil Winter League Round 3 Matchplay

Entrance and Car Park Resurfacing

Great progress was made with the entrance road and majority of the car park being fully finished. The small remaining areas will be completed early this week, and no further course closures are planned. I’m sure all will agree that the result is fantastic and will mean more comfort and safety for users in the future. A big thank you to the Coolcormack residents for their patience during the works.

Winter League Round 3 Matchplay

The team pairings are as follows:

Cheetahs vs Rams, Bulls vs Sharks, Stallions vs Wolves, Bears vs Lions, Rhinos vs Stags, Leopards vs Tigers.

Due to the entrance resurfacing and bad weather it was a relatively quiet week for Round 3 of the league. However, a number of matches were completed and results entered on the sheet in the clubhouse. Some clarifications of the match rules were communicated to Team Captains and on the gent’s WhatsApp group. Round 3 continues for the next 2 weeks.

Seamus Power News

This week Seamus travelled half-way around the world from Hawaii to Abu Dhabi to represent the GB&I team taking on Europe in the inaugural Hero Cup. There was no sign of jet-lag on Friday morning, however, as Seamus and Robert McIntyre had a comfortable 4&3 win in the opening fourball series, shooting the lowest score of the day in the process. The Saturday foursomes didn’t quite go to plan as Seamus, partnering countryman Shane Lowry and McIntyre again, lost both his matches. The Sunday singles saw Seamus taking on the talented Nicolai Hojgaard of Denmark. In what was a top quality, nip and tuck affair, Seamus eventually lost on the 18th hole. He can take some consolation from the fact that but for a couple of miraculous shots from the young Dane, the result may well have been different. The big winner of the week though is surely Ryder Cup Captain, Luke Donald, who would have been delighted not only with the standard of golf from both sides, but also with the team spirit displayed by all 20 players. Seamus has stated many times that it is a life-long ambition of his to make a Ryder Cup side, and his play this week would have done his chances of fulfilling his dream, later this year, no harm at all.

Gary Hurley News

After making three halfway cuts in his first three DP World Tour events before Christmas, Gary returned home to Aglish for a few days, before spending the New Year celebrations in Dubai and Abu Dhabi with his family. He isn’t scheduled to play again until early February and will spend the rest of January at his base in Saadiyat Beach preparing for his next event. There does seem to be some time for relaxation as well, however! This week, Gary took time out to give some West Waterford support to Seamus at the Hero Cup, which just happened to be taking place in Abu Dhabi also!

Pat Murphy – Munster Club Volunteer of the Year Award

We wish Pat the best of luck this coming Tuesday evening when he receives his award at the Munster Branch Regional AGM. Have a great night Pat, you deserve it!
