With the rain behaving itself and falling mainly overnight, this week saw another big entry to the weekly competition, as can be seen by the number of prizes above. Congratulations to all prize winners and thank you to everyone who entered. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Next week will be the final week of Round 4 of the Comeragh Oil Winter League. By the look of the numbers playing, the race for the top 4 is definitely hotting up!

Comeragh Oil Winter League Round 4

Seamus Power News

This week Seamus was in California where he took his place in the prestigious Genesis Invitational at the historic Riviera Country Club. This was another of the PGA tour’s elevated events and saw 23 of the top 25 golfers in the world competing. An added attraction was that the tournament was being hosted by Tiger Woods, who was also competing for the first time in months. Once again, two steady rounds saw Seamus make the halfway cut by 2 shots. Then, on Saturday, Seamus made a strong move through the field with a 67, that would have been the best round of the day were it not for an unfortunate triple bogey on the 12th. Another solid round of -2 on Sunday saw Seamus finish in a very commendable tied 14th place. It is fair to say, Seamus looks increasingly comfortable in these huge events amongst names like Rahm, McIroy and Scheffler. His finish saw him remain in 4th place in the FedEx Cup standings. He takes a well deserved break this week before moving onto the Florida swing of the PGA tour in March. Congratulations from all in West Waterford, Seamus, on an outstanding year to-date! We are all very proud of you!

Gary Hurley News

This week Gary travelled from Singapore to Thailand where he took his place in the Thailand Classic at the Amata Spring Country Club in Bangkok. After a steady opening round of -1, playing alongside fellow Irishman and DP World tour rookie John Murphy, he knew he would have to shoot at least the same again on Friday to make the cut. As it turned out, he played superbly and beat this score by 4 shots to make the cut comfortably on -6 overall. A relatively disappointing weekend saw Gary shoot rounds of 75 and 72 to finish in a tie for 66th position. He can take heart from another cut made though, as he looks ahead to the Hero Indian Open this coming week. Best of luck, Gary, from all in West Waterford!

Photographs and Golf Memorabilia

I went into the clubhouse during the week and was delighted to see so many high quality photographs of West Waterford’s golfing history on display. A lot has been achieved in our relatively short history, with many more achievements to come in the future I’m sure. On behalf of all members, a big thank you to all involved in putting this golfing memorabilia in place.

Membership

Thank you to all members who have renewed their membership for 2023. A fantastic year of golf is being planned by the Management Committee in what is the club’s 30th year in existence. It is also great to see so many new members joining our club. We extend the famous West Waterford welcome to you all.
