Christmas Party Time!!
Christmas Celebration in West Waterford! On Saturday 9th December there will be a Members Christmas Party in the Clubhouse. Clodagh and Jason from the Food Doc are rustling up a very nice three course menu and there will also be drinks on arrival and some ceol agus craic. Tickets which cost €30 are available from the Bar or from Bridget Blackwell, Lady Captain, Niall Colleran, Captain and Jim Moroney, President. Please note tickets will be available to purchase following the AGMs on Wednesday night. Get on early!
Women’s Notes
Annual General Meeting: On Wednesday night we have the changing of the guard in West Waterford when we hold the Annual General Meetings of the Ladies and Mens Club. Proceedings kick off at 7.30 in the Clubhouse.
On behalf of all the Lady Members I would like to acknowledge Nora Flynn’s role as Lady Captain this year. Many competitions and events have been organised throughout the year which included a few very good sociable events. The dancing at the Lady Captain’s Prize dinner comes to mind as well as a super day and night in Woodenbridge Golf Club and Hotel back in late August. Well Done Nora.
I wish the incoming Lady Captain Bridget Blackwell all the best for her year and indeed all the members of the Ladies Committee. Two of us, Jean O Donovan and myself are stepping down from our respective roles as Handicap Secretary and PRO having served the mandatory three years in the position. Sure what can I say but we were only brilliant!!!!
Winter League: There are some members who put away their Clubs for the Winter season. However in West Waterford there is usually a good entry in the Winter League. This year Round 1 kicks off on the 10th December and runs until the 31st January. It will be a nine hole competition and players must return a minimum of three cards per round.
Round 2 will be played over 13 holes and kicks off on February 1st. The final of the Shaws sponsored competition is scheduled for March 24th. We are most grateful to Shaws for their continuous sponsorship. Shaws is the perfect place to do your Christmas shopping.
Now is the time to get your name down to play. Who knows you might just be on the winning team!

Men’s Notes
Results
Weekly 13H Singles S/F in conjunction with WL2024
1st Mike Fenton (28) 32pts
Men’s Winter League 2024
It was a quiet second week for the league due to the course being closed most days. 12 brave souls managed to squeeze in a round and got counting cards in, so fair play to them. Mike Fenton won the weekly prize, giving Team Q a big boost with his excellent score of 32pts. It’s still very early days obviously, but Team E led by Colm O’Callaghan are currently leading the way with 142 points from 5 counting scores. Team G and C are in 2nd and third place respectively, also having 5 scores each. Further down the league table, Team O were the biggest weekly movers, jumping up 4 spots to 9th place. Best of luck to all for week 3 and hopefully the weather improves a bit!
Winter Rules
Please note the following Winter Rules in play for the duration of the Winter period:
- Place on the ground within 6 inches on Fairway & Rough.
- Bunkers: Out of play until further notice*. Drop outside bunker at nearest point of relief, not nearer the hole
- Buggies are not permitted on the course until further notice*
- *Keep an eye on the noticeboard and BRS for updates in relation to Bunker and Buggy status
Note: Given the soft ground conditions, a temporary rule is in place allowing players a free drop if a ball cannot be found in open ground, in agreement with playing partners.

Thank you Frances!
My friend and colleague, Frances Carroll, is stepping down from her role as PRO for the Ladies after the AGM next week. I just want to say I only wish I had Frances’ natural flair for writing and to thank her for all the help during the year.
