Christmas Celebration in West Waterford!
On Saturday 9th December there will be a Members Christmas Party in the Clubhouse. Clodagh and Jason from the Food Doc are rustling up a very tasty three course menu and there will also be drinks on arrival and some ceol agus craic. Tickets which cost €30 are available from the Bar or from Bridget Blackwell, Lady Captain, Niall Colleran, Captain and Jim Moroney, President.
Successful Annual General Meeting
On Wednesday last West Waterford was a busy place as the Annual General Meeting for the Ladies and Men’s club was held. Nora Flynn, our outgoing Lady Captain, was congratulated on a wonderful year. Nora was a warm, friendly and hard working Lady Captain, who clocked up the miles from Carrigeen to West Waterford this year to attend meetings, events, presentations and help with the voluntary work. Nora was always available to welcome visitors to the club.
2023 was a successful year for the ladies, with a good entry into all competitions, and all majors were hotly contested. The new format for Golfer of the year, ensured a very exciting finish to the season.
We welcome our incoming Lady Captain Bridget Blackwell. Bridget is a very active member of West Waterford and has served on a number of committees in recent years. I have no doubt that Bridget will bring much to the Lady Captain’s role and there should be fun times ahead.
This year we have two members standing down from the committee. To Francis and Jean, we thank you so much for your hard work and input and wish you continued happy golfing. We also welcome on board three new members onto the committee and your input will be greatly appreciated. To those staying on board for 2024 we are truly grateful for your ongoing commitment.
Following the election of Officers, discussion took place on the Winter League and other club matters. It was great to see such a large turnout and lively discussion on all matters.
On behalf of all the lady members I wish Bridget the very best of luck in her role as Lady Captain and Niall Colleran on his appointment as Men’s Captain. Wishing Jim Moroney best of luck in his role as President.
The winter league commences on the 10th December. Please sign up for this by December 3rd. Entry sheet on noticeboard.

Men’s Winter League 2024
The fine weather resulted in the busiest week to-date in this year’s league. In all over 70 scores were recorded in the week, 66 of which were league scores. Thanks to everyone who got out to play. As a result of the large entry, there were four Category prizes and congratulations to all the winners.
On the team front, it is still very early days, but Team E is still out in front on 249pts from 10 counting scores. The biggest weekly mover in a positive direction was Team N who moved up 7 places on the table to ninth, but the biggest mover overall was Team H who dropped 9 spots to 15th! After three weeks, the league is progressing well with all teams having recorded at least 1 score, and two teams have a very strong 10 scores recorded already. Best of luck to all for week 4.
Annual General Meeting
On November 22nd, the Men’s and Women’s Clubs held their AGM’s in the clubhouse. In the Mens AGM, outgoing Men’s Secretary Maurice Hallahan took centre stage when he first read the minutes from the 2022 AGM followed by a very comprehensive review of the past year in the club. Outgoing Captain Michael Cass thanked Maurice for his 22 years service and also thanked Jimmy Murphy, also stepping down from his role this year, who has served 30 years as Competition Secretary. Both men received a very well deserved round of applause by those in attendance. The baton was passed to incoming Captain Niall Colleran who welcomed two new members to the 2024 Committee, Liam O’Brien as the new Handicap Secretary and Conor Walsh as the new Honorary Secretary. We wish Niall and his team the very best of luck for 2024.
Please note the following Winter Rules in play for the duration of the Winter period:
- Place on the ground within 6 inches on Fairway & Rough.
- Bunkers: Out of play until further notice*. Drop outside bunker at nearest point of relief, not nearer the hole
- Buggies are not permitted on the course until further notice*
- *Keep an eye on the noticeboard and BRS for updates in relation to Bunker and Buggy status
Note: Given the soft ground conditions, a temporary rule is in place allowing players a free drop if a ball cannot be found in open ground, in agreement with playing partners.
