Women’s Notes

We are Back!  During the week and all through the week-end it was really great to see players out on the golf course enjoying a game of golf.  In racing parlance the ground would probably be described as Yielding at the moment but at least golf action has been restored!

Culinary Delights in West Waterford:  Sometimes one needs a good fry up and on Sunday morning I was lucky enough to enjoy a scrumptious breakfast in the Clubhouse prepared by our Caterers Jason and Clodagh from the Food Doc.  Absolutely hit the spot!  The Winter Opening hours are Friday to Sunday inclusive 9.30 to 4.30pm.   Get away from the “Madding Crowd” and enjoy lovely food in the peaceful surroundings of West Waterford Golf Club where you won’t even have to worry about a Parking Ticket!  Jason and Clodagh also cater for any special family celebrations.

Creeping towards Christmas:  Only six weeks to go before the man in the red suit arrives and we celebrate a special Birthday on the 25th December. I fall into the category of the last minute Shopper wrapping the presents on Christmas Eve! I have a few gift suggestions that won’t require much wrapping!

  • A Voucher for West Waterford Golf Club Membership for the very Special One in your life or the youngster who wants to be the next Seamus Power or Gary Hurley.
  • Green Fees are also very welcome presents but a voucher for the Golf Triangle hits the Jackpot!  For just  €84 your visiting golf enthusiast gets to play the three local courses West Waterford, Dungarvan and the Gold Coast. Now that is a nice present!
  • Our shop now stocks the very popular Ping brand for your golf apparel. An on-line order can be put through if the item you want isn’t available in the shop. Please phone Gillian at 058 43216.

Men’s Winter League 2024

The eagerly anticipated Winter League 2024 got underway as planned on Monday 6th November. After the course being closed for what seemed like weeks, it was great to see golfers back out on the fairways once more. The weather for the week was as good as could be expected for the time of year, although the course conditions were still very soft after all the rain. In all, 34 scores were recorded for the league – a fair return given the soft ground conditions. A weekly summary was communicated on Sunday evening and this will be communicated after each week of the qualifying period. Team E are off to a flyer, recording 4 excellent scores and have stormed into a big early lead. In fact, two Team E members, Eddie Glavin and Colm O’Callaghan, took home the first two individual prizes of this year’s league with great scores of 30pts. I must say, Team E is looking like a very strong team on paper at this early stage. It is very early days, however, and with the new format especially, things can all change right up to the end of qualifying. Best of luck to all teams for week 2.

Winter Rules

Please note the following Winter Rules in play for the duration of the Winter period:

  • Place on the ground within 6 inches on Fairway & Rough.
  • Bunkers: Out of play until further notice*. Drop outside bunker at nearest point of relief, not nearer the hole
  • Buggies are not permitted on the course until further notice*
  • *Keep an eye on the noticeboard and BRS for updates in relation to Bunker and Buggy status

Note: Given the soft ground conditions, a temporary rule is in place allowing players a free drop if a ball cannot be found in open ground, in agreement with playing partners.
