West Waterford Golf Club Ladies Notes

West Waterford prepares for busy season ahead:  The signs are obvious!  The car park is very busy and the course is busy. The Spring Clean has commenced  as volunteers are to be seen throughout the course and areas surrounding the clubhouse weeding, pruning and tidying.   On behalf of our Lady Captain Nora Flynn I would like to thank all the volunteers who are giving so much of their time to West Waterford.

The recent lovely spell of dry weather has brought the golfers back!  The course itself is in great condition and credit must go to Morrie and his team for protecting the course during the long wet spell after Christmas by not letting us loose on it!  Now the course is the winner and the members and visitors are the beneficiaries.

Winter League:  The Winter League matches are in full swing and while it is mandatory to submit a minimum of two cards for the month of February, bookings clearly show that team members are playing multiple times in an effort to improve on their scores.  The Hybrids captained by Una Mulligan are currently leading but the pursuers are queuing up behind!

The two Match Play matches for the Winter Leagues must be completed by the 24th March.  The 10 points for winning could be a major influence on the final placing of your team!  Please consult the Noticeboard in the Ladies Locker room to see who you are playing.  The Final is scheduled for March 26th.

Some Important Dates for your Diary – In case you are going on Holidays!

Sun 12th March – Captains Drive In:  All roads lead to West Waterford on Sunday 12th March as our two esteemed Captains Michael Cass and Nora Flynn “Drive Off” the season.  A nine whole scramble will follow after which we will all retire to the Clubhouse.  A nice way to start the week of the much anticipated Cheltenham racing Festival!  On behalf of our Ladies I would like to wish our two Captains and our President Jim Moroney the very best for their year.

Sunday 11 June:  Captain’s Prize to the Ladies – kindly presented by Michael Cass

Sunday 16 July: President’s Prize to the Ladies – kindly presented by Jim Moroney

Friday 11th & Saturday 12th August: Lady Captain’s Prize – kindly presented by Nora Flynn

These dates only cover the Majors.  A full schedule of Club events will be available very soon.

Ladies Outing:  Friday 25th August – An Away Day and Night in Woodenbridge Golf Club, Wicklow.  If you are interested in travelling please put your name up on the notice in the Locker room.

Get into Golf – Cards for Handicap: Our Get into Golf recruits have been very active and it is great to see so many out getting some practice in.  The aim over the next number of weeks is to get cards for handicap purposes submitted for those who have not yet been given a handicap. Six nine hole cards or three 18 Hole cards must be submitted.  All cards must be signed by a player who holds a current handicap.  Please write For Handicap Purposes when you are out marking a card for the new members.  I have no doubt that we will be welcoming new names into the Winners enclosure this Summer!
