West Waterford Golf Club News – w/c 29th June 2025
Busy Weekend for West Waterford’s Inter-Club Teams
It was a busy weekend on the inter-club competition front for West Waterford Golf Club, with four teams in action across various Golf Ireland events.
First up on Friday, 27th June, was our Under-18 Boys’ Inter-Club team, who travelled to Mitchelstown Golf Club for the regional qualifier. The boys delivered an outstanding performance for such a young side, finishing a highly commendable third out of 14 teams with a total of 109 points — just three points behind the winners. A special mention goes to Keelan Cotter, who recorded the best individual score of the day with an impressive 41 points. Congratulations to Conor, Ross, Keelan, Rueben and David for their superb golf and for representing West Waterford GC with distinction.
On Saturday morning, our Senior Cup team travelled to Lee Valley Golf Club for the last 16 and regional quarterfinals of the Senior Cup. The team produced an excellent display to defeat Carrick-on-Suir GC and progress to the quarter-final, where they faced a strong Kinsale side. In what was a very close encounter, the match went right down to the wire, with our lads narrowly losing on the 19th hole of the deciding match. Well done to Luke, Thomas, Eoin, Philip and Darragh on a fantastic effort and an impressive run in this year’s competition.
Saturday afternoon saw our Jimmy Bruen team head to local rivals Dungarvan GC for the third round of the competition. Despite a spirited effort, a fast start by Dungarvan proved decisive, and our lads bowed out at this stage. Nonetheless, this campaign marked real progress for the team, and no doubt Conor & Ian, Shane & Clive, Colm & Conor, and Ciaran & Jack will be back even stronger next year.
The weekend concluded with the spotlight on our ladies, as the Revive Active team took on the Gold Coast GC on Sunday evening. With the format involving three pairings playing away and two at home, there was plenty of excitement — and plenty of phone calls — as news filtered back and forth. In the end, our ladies rose to the occasion, delivering a series of superb performances to claim victory and progress to the next round, where they will face Tramore GC. This competition has brought success to the club in the past, and we wish Mary Lou & Aishling, Denise & Mary, June & Joanne, Marie T & Margaret, and Una & Finola the very best as they continue their campaign.
Drainage Works
Drainage works have now completed on the 2nd, 3rd, 11th, 12th & 14th holes. We would like to thank all our members and visitors for their patience while this was happening, and we look forward to the improved course playability that will result from these works during wetter conditions.

Disappointing Week for Séamus Power at Rocket Mortgage
It was a frustrating week for Séamus Power at the Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit, as he struggled to find his best form. Despite his best efforts, he was unable to mount a serious challenge and finished well down the leaderboard, marking a disappointing result as he continues to work his way back to top form following recent injury issues.
Séamus will now look to bounce back at next week’s John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run, an event that has often produced low scoring. He’ll be hoping to rediscover some momentum and get his season back on track.
