West Waterford Golf Club News – w/c 6th July 2025
Busy Week for Junior Golfers at West Waterford
It was an eventful week for our Junior section, with two rounds of the Déise League taking place at Tramore and Waterford Castle golf clubs.
There was a spectacular start to the week in Tramore, where Daniel Murphy delivered a phenomenal performance, carding an impressive 60 points. Hot on his heels was his brother Jayden, who also posted a superb score of 47 points to secure second place.
At Waterford Castle, although he didn’t feature in the prizes, Daniel showed admirable composure with his significantly reduced handicap, returning a solid 35 points. The recent weeks have clearly reflected the hard work both Daniel and Jayden, and the rest of our Juniors have been putting in. What once felt like a never-ending wait on his starter handicap has now transformed into a rapid improvement for Daniel, with him shaving an extraordinary 17 shots off his handicap in just a few weeks. We encourage all our juniors to follow suit—keep practising, keep enjoying your golf and having fun, and the rewards will follow. Handicaps will drop with effort and perseverance.
Such results have also highlighted the tireless work of our Junior Club officers and volunteers, whose commitment continues to support every young golfer in reaching their potential. As with all areas of our club, we warmly encourage members and parents to consider lending their support to the Junior Committee. Any help is always greatly appreciated.
On Saturday evening, we had the pleasure of welcoming professional golfer Gary Hurley back to West Waterford. Gary generously took time to speak with our junior members, sharing memories of his own early days at the club and the inspiration he drew from some of the older juniors of his time like Séamus Power.
Gary’s journey is a powerful reminder of what can be achieved through passion and persistence. He continues to be a fantastic ambassador for West Waterford Golf Club, and we extend our very best wishes to him for a full and speedy recovery from injury.
Revise Active ladies’ team in action
Next Sunday, 13th, our Revive Active Ladies fourball team take on Tramore Golf Club in round 2 of the competition. This weekend we will have two pairs playing away in Tramore, and two pairs at home in West Waterford. After a great opening round win, the ladies will be aiming to continue their success in a tournament that has been good to us in the past. We wish the ladies the best of luck and a good bounce of the ball this weekend.
Another Hole-in-One at West Waterford!
The ladies are at it again — congratulations to Nora Flynn, who recorded a hole-in-one this past week during the Ring Classic, holing out in style on the 13th. A superb achievement and one to be rightly celebrated.
By our count, this marks the seventh hole-in-one at West Waterford Golf Club so far this year — with two on the 4th, one on the 11th, and an incredible four aces on the 13th.
If you fancy improving your chances of joining the exclusive hole-in-one club, perhaps it’s time to pay a visit to West Waterford GC!
Plenty of Positives for Séamus Power at the John Deere Classic
While Séamus Power may have been disappointed with a closing round of 75 at the John Deere Classic in Illinois, there was much to be encouraged by over the week. His opening rounds of 67, 66, and 68 were hugely impressive, and he ranked among the best in the field for Greens in Regulation — a strong indicator of his form.
Despite the final round setback, Power showed great resilience to put himself in contention heading into Sunday. He also earned valuable FedEx Cup points, contributing to his ongoing effort to remain inside the top 125 in the rankings and secure his PGA Tour card for next season.
That pursuit continues next week as he tees it up at the ISCO Championship in Louisville, Kentucky. The challenge goes on.
