West Waterford Golf Club News – w/c 22th June 2025

Denise Nugent Triumphs in Shane Hanrahan’s Captain’s Prize to the Ladies.

On Sunday last, glorious conditions, with just a passing shower, set the stage for a memorable day, as Shane Hanrahan’s Captain’s Prize to the Ladies was played out in fine style. As usual, there was a big turnout of ladies for this prestigious competition, resulting in a great buzz around the clubhouse before and after the golf.

Congratulations go to Denise Nugent, who produced a superb round of 66 nett to take top honours on the day. Her excellent performance saw her finish clear of what was an otherwise closely contested competition.

Prize Winners:

1st – Denise Nugent (21) – 66 nett

2nd – Mary Donnelly (22) – 70 nett

Gross – Mary Lou Carroll – 88 gross

3rd – Bridget Blackwell (27) – 70 nett

Category Winners:

Cat. A: Una Mulligan (21) – 73 nett

Cat. B: Mary Fahy (24) – 73 nett

Cat. C: Trish O’Shea (34) – 72 nett

Cat. D: Mary French (38) – 78 nett

The day was a great celebration of ladies’ golf at the club, with thanks extended to Captain Shane Hanrahan for his generous support and for making the occasion one to remember.

Well done to all who took part, and especially to our prize winners on a fantastic day.

Busy Weekend Ahead for West Waterford’s Inter-Club Teams

Next weekend is gearing up to be another action-packed weekend on the inter-club front, with three teams representing the club in key competitions.

On Friday 27th June, our Under-18 Boys’ Inter-Club team travel to Mitchelstown for the regional qualifier. With 15 clubs vying for just one coveted place in the area finals next month, it promises to be a fiercely competitive day. Representing West Waterford are Ross Kavanagh, Conor Keane, Keelan Cotter, Rueben O’Brien, and David Prendergast—a talented line-up ready to rise to the occasion.

The action continues on Saturday 28th, as our Jimmy Bruen team make the short journey to neighbours Dungarvan for the third round of their campaign. After some recent near misses this year, the lads will be hoping for a change of fortune on the Dungarvan course this time.

Closing out the weekend, on Sunday 29th, our Revive Active Ladies Fourball team take on Gold Coast Golf Club in the opening round of the competition. With three pairs playing away at the Gold Coast and two pairs at home in West Waterford, the ladies will be aiming for a strong showing in a tournament that has brought the club plenty of success in the past.

Best of luck to all three teams flying the flag for West Waterford this weekend.

Drainage Works
As the drainage works on the 2nd, 3rd, 11th and 12th holes are coming to completion, and further to consultation with our contractor, we have extended the works to also include the 14th hole. All drainage works are expected to be completed within the next week. While we apologise for any short-term inconvenience caused while the works are ongoing, we are really looking forward to the improved course playability that will result from these works during wetter conditions.
