Lady Captain Nora Flynn is off to Merrys Bistro!  The Merrys Bistro sponsored 18 hole stableford attracted a good entry, especially on the Thursday.  Our Lady Captain paid a welcome visit to the Winners enclosure when she came home in front playing off 30 with 36 points. Marie T Curran is coming into form at just the right time before the upcoming Lady Captain’s Prize.  Playing off 23 Marie T had 33 points.  In third place we had the inform Una Mulligan playing off 26 with 31 points.  Many thanks to Emily Stafford and Merrys Bistro for their sponsorship.

Ann Rochford out in front in President’s 9 Hole.  On Saturday evening Jim Moroney,  our very popular President organised a 9 hole competition for the Ladies to coincide with his President’s Prize.  There was a great turnout and in the end it was the ever consistent Ann Rochford who finished in front with a score of 19 points playing off 17.

Golfer of the Year Hotting Up!  It will be an interesting battle over the next number of weeks as the top 10 scores to count come into play in our Golfer of the Year competition.  Currently Eithne Ashby is leading with a total of 345 points closely followed by Jean Conway and Mary Lou Carroll with 343 each.

Catriona Fitzgerald and Una Mulligan take the Honours!  In the Get Into Golf scramble on Tuesday night Catriona Fitzgerald and Una Mulligan made it a winning combination.  Margaret Looby and Lorna Behan filled the second spot.  There was some lovely golf played and, as I have said before, remember these names.  They will be regulars on these Notes next season

Junior Academy News

This was a very busy week for the Junior Academy. Beginning on Tuesday, we had our regular weekly competition including cards for Junior Golfer of the Year.

On Wednesday, 10 of our J4s and J5s travelled to Faithlegg GC in the east of the county for Round 3 of the Deise League. Unfortunately, the poor weather got the better of some of the lads, but all in all it was a memorable experience.

Finally, on Thursday it was the turn of our young cadets. 6 of them travelled to Tipperary GC where a great welcome was received in the evening sunshine. Some excellent golf was witnessed and congrats to Tara, Maebh, Daniel, Jayden, Fionnán and Daragh for representing the club with such distinction.

A big thank you must go to all parents for travelling to both Faithlegg and Tipperary. The Junior Academy wouldn’t exist without your support.

Next week, it’s on to Waterford Castle GC for round 4 of the Deise League on Tuesday 1st August and we’ll get back to to our regular days in West Waterford on Saturday 5th August.
