The President’s Prize (Mr. Jim Moroney)
Next weekend will see this year’s President’s Prize take place. I’m sure all will agree that our President, Mr. Jim Moroney, has done a lot of good work for the club this year and deserves all our support for his big weekend. Two qualifying rounds will be held on Friday and Saturday with the top 36 going through to the final on Sunday. We wish Jim all the best and hope it all goes well for him.

Not to be outdone by his son-in-law, Vincent O’Mahoney followed Ray Bannon’s success last week by winning this week’s competition kindly sponsored by Terra Nua. Vinnie’s day got off to a promising start when he holed a monster putt for par on the first, and then things really started to look good when he sunk an equally long putt on the 11th for birdie. Vincent played steady golf from there to the finish for a well deserved victory. Big hitting Alan Alcock finished second with 40pts and Captain Michael Cass took third with 38pts. Luke Cummins took the gross prize with an excellent 34pts. Big congrats to all the winners!

Ladies Notes
Una Mulligan Banks the AIB Prize! On Sunday last Una Mulligan played her best round of the year when winning the AIB (Ardkeen Branch) sponsored 18 hole stableford competition. Playing off 27 Una returned a score of 42 points. She had plenty to spare over the runner-up Geraldine Hickey playing off 35 with a score of 33 points. Winner of last year’s Lady Captain’s prize Geraldine is finding form at just the right time. In third place we had Jean O Donovan who definitely has a big win in her in the very near future! Playing off 28 Jean also had 33 points. Jean has not been off the podium all season.
Murrays CarePlus Pharmacy Open Event: Played in a Waltz format the Murrays CarePlus Pharmacy sponsored Open attracted a good entry on Thursday. The best dancers were Mary Herlihy, Marian Hilliard and Joan Nugent with a fine score of 79 points. In second place, with just an odd step out of place we had Una Mulligan, Geraldine Curran and Trish O Shea who returned a score of 76 points just beating Ciara Donnelly, Bridget Blackwell and Nora Flynn on the countback. As for the rest of us, well let’s just say we all got our moves mixed up on the holes where all 3 scores counted! Many thanks to Murrays CarePlus Pharmacy for their generous sponsorship.
Monday Fun Scramble Attracts the Crowds! On Monday evening last West Waterford was very busy as a big crowd turned up to play in the Fun Scramble. In first place we had Stephen Walsh, (something of a Monday night Scramble specialist), Aisling Shanahan and Marie Curran. Another regular player in the Monday night scramble Michael Gill teamed up with Christine Fogarty and Therese Troy to take second place while the third slot was filled by the ace team of Noreen Kelly, Ciara Donnelly and John Corbett. I say it every week, but the Monday evening Fun Scramble should not be missed. Just turn up before 6pm and you are guaranteed a good time!
President’s Prize: Next weekend our very popular President Jim Moroney stages his Presidents Prize. This competition is always well supported by the Men but on Saturday evening the Ladies can catch some of the action when there will be a 9 hole competition. Please put your name down on the time sheet. On behalf of the Lady Captain I would like to wish Jim the very best for his special weekend.
Lady Captain’s Week End: On Friday and Saturday August 11th and 12th our Lady Captain Nora Flynn hosts her Captains Prize competition. Please ensure that you put your name on the list to play and also if you are having Dinner in the Clubhouse on the Saturday evening. All members are looking forward to the event and there is much speculation as to who will win the coveted prize!
Dalton Jewellers Singles Matchplay: The Dalton Jewellers Singles Matchplay will get underway in August. Please put your name down on the list to play.
Club Outing Woodenbridge: On Friday August 25th the West Waterford Ladies head off to Woodenbridge Golf Club in Wicklow for a little golf and relaxation! Numbers must be finalised this weekend. Please contact our Captain Nora Flynn
