Winter League Semi-finals – Marred by bad Weather
Lions v Cheetahs; Wolves v Leopards
More wet weather during the week resulted in course closures on most days. A better than expected day on Saturday meant the course could be re-opened on Sunday following a ground condition inspection. Golfers were naturally itching to return to the fairways and Sunday was a very busy day. Phil Kinsella made up for just losing out last week by making certain this week with an outstanding score of 38pts, beating the consistent Noel Conway into second place. Congratulations to both Phil and Noel.
Unfortunately, the course being closed also meant that there are still a few Winter League matches yet to be played. At the time of writing, a decision on how to proceed has not been taken, but will be communicated on the WhatsApp group as soon as it has been. As it stands, the final is still set for next Sunday 26th March, but is now subject to change.

Ladies Club News
News Flash!! The final of the Winter League will now take place on Sunday April 2nd. At a recent meeting of the Ladies committee it was decided to change the date due to the current inclement weather conditions. Please ensure that you have two cards submitted and that you have completed your two mandatory Match Play matches on or before Friday March 31st. The timesheet is up for the Final on April 2nd and you may book your teetime. The Winter League seems to have gone on for ever this year and it will be a welcome relief when we get back to playing our normal golf competitions.
What’s Happening this week! A 16 hole Singles competition runs from 16th March to Thursday 6th April. There is also an ongoing 9 hole competition running.
New Look Golfer of the Year Competition: Our first 18 hole competition kindly sponsored by Crean Mosaics runs on Thursday April 13th or Sunday 16th April. This will be the first GOY competition. The 10 best cards will be counted from all 18 hole qualifying competitions entered on the computer including the Mna Eile qualifiers. The two days of the Lady Captains Prize will be counted separately for GOY purposes. A minimum of 30 points will be required to be included on the league table. Please note that in the event of Winter Rules being in place the competition will not count for GOY points.
Get into Golf: The weather conditions have been difficult for all players but it is especially difficult when you are starting out in golf. Special mention must go to Heather and Teresa who played last Sunday in pretty miserable conditions but returned very nice scores. Hopefully in the next few weeks we will see established players out on the fairways with our Get into Golf ladies. Upwards and Onwards!
Golf Lessons: If you feel your golf game needs a little tweaking or you are new to the game the good news is that Aaron Crotty intends running a four week programme for group lessons in the near future. The maximum number in each group will be 6 and it will cost €10 per lesson. Please give your name to Una Mulligan if you are interested in participating

The rules and format of this competition were communicated and parents and juniors were invited to enter. The deadline for entries is March 31st, with the draw being made in early April.
Seamus Power News: This week Seamus heads off to play in the WGC – Dell Technologies Match Play event which takes place in the Austin Country Club in Austin, Texas. West Waterford have entered teams in most of the competitions, with Vice-Captain Niall Colleran taking on the role of looking after the mens teams. Some matches must be played by April, so preparations are well underway and teams will be picked over the coming weeks.
