Winter Rules Amendment

An amendment has been made to the Winter Rules already in play. In order to protect the course over the winter months as much as possible, players are now asked to tee up the ball when placing as follows:

  • place on a tee within 6 inches on Fairway & Rough.
  • Bunkers: Rake and place within 6 inches
  • If bunker is waterlogged, free drop at nearest point of relief not nearer the hole
  • Buggies are not permitted on the course until further notice

Women’s Notes

Denise Nails Dalton Jewellers Matchplay!  Denise over the years has been a stalwart of West Waterford Golf Club.  Whether it was representing the Club or competing at Club level Denise could always be relied upon for a great performance.  This weekend Denise was a very worthy winner of the Dalton Jewellers sponsored Singles Matchplay.  Playing the newly crowned Golfer of the Year winner Eithne Ashby , Denise had to play super golf to clinch victory on the very last hole!  It was a titanic match with both players giving it their all.  However in the end there had to be one winner and Denise was a deserving winner.

Jean Conway is Queen of the Nine Hole!  You have nine hole specialists.  Ger Curran comes to mind!  She is a regular winner.  However in the final of the Nine Hole series, The Queen of the Nine Hole Jean Conway played stunning golf to record a score of 22 points playing off 11.  Throughout the year Jean has featured strongly in the Golfer of the Year series and on Sunday Jean brought her consistent golf to win the coveted Queen of the Nine Hole Title.

Mary Lou Birdies her way into the Prizes!  Mary Lou Carroll always plays a good game but throughout the year she managed to achieve a number of birdies to get on the Birdie Tree.  At the final countback Mary Lou was a good winner with a multiple number of Birdie notifications hanging off the Birdie Tree!  And yours truly was very happy with one special one throughout the whole year!

Something must have gone wrong with the genes!

Fun Scramble Moves to Wednesday:  As the evenings are closing in the Fun scramble has been moved to Wednesday morning.  Come out to West Waterford and have a bit of fun on a Wednesday morning!   The action kicks off at 11.00am.  Your amateur status will not be comprised if you are in the Prizes!

Junior Academy News

On Saturday 14th October, in glorious Autumn sunshine, West Waterford held the final round of the Golf Sixes League. The Golf Sixes league is a Golf Ireland initiative aimed at younger Junior golfers and this year there were four East Munster Clubs involved. Over the course of the Summer, West Waterford travelled to Tipperary, Clonmel and Co. Tipperary (Dundrum) golf clubs where we received a great welcome and on Saturday it was our turn to host and welcome our friends to West Waterford. On the day, the young golfers produced some superb golf, with birdies galore including a pitch-in from the sister and brother team of Meabh and Jack O’Connell. At the end of the day’s play, when all the scores were counted, the winners on the day were Clonmel GC, who also deservedly claimed the overall first prize. A prize-giving ceremony was held in the clubhouse where Clonmel were presented with the Trophy and winners medals, and all players received certificates to mark their participation in this wonderful competition. A big thank you to all the parents who travelled on the day and waited patiently for the presentation. Finally, a big thank you to our caterers, Jason and Clodagh, who stayed beyond their scheduled closing time to provide excellent food and drinks for all. We look forward to next year where we will do it all again.
