Men’s Winter League 2024-Get Ready to Go!!

The teams for Winter League 2024 were finalised last week and the league is now ready to go, pending the course being open. In all, 85 men entered the league meaning we have 17 teams of 5 players. The league is once again being sponsored by Comeragh Oil and a big thank you to them for this. Entry fee money will be put towards the Matchplay prizes and this year there will be prizes for both losing semi-finalists as well as the winner and runner-up. A weekly summary will be communicated on the Men’s WhatsApp group throughout the qualifying period, with the top 8 teams making it through to the matchplay phase in early February. All that’s left is to wish all players and teams the best of luck and no doubt we will have worthy champions when the final is played next March.

Winter Rules

Please note the following Winter Rules in play for the duration of the Winter period:

  • Place on the ground within 6 inches on Fairway & Rough.
  • Bunkers: Out of play until further notice*. Drop outside bunker at nearest point of relief, not nearer the hole
  • Buggies are not permitted on the course until further notice*
  • *Keep an eye on the noticeboard and BRS for updates in relation to Bunker and Buggy status

Women’s Notes

The Last Hurrah!  The final presentation of the season took place on Sunday evening in the Clubhouse.  Fittingly it was the presentation of Prizes for the Dalton Jewellers sponsored Club Singles Matchplay.  As previously reported Denise Nugent won the Club Singles following a super match against the 2023 Golfer of the Year winner Eithne Ashby.  We are very grateful to Dalton Jewellers for generously sponsoring this competition for many years.  The Club Matchplay Claret Jug is one that we all want to have on display on our sideboard!

Jean Conway rules Supreme in the 13 Hole Comp!  The inclement weather certainly played it’s part in the running of the October competitions.  This 13 hole competition was sponsored by Frances Carroll and all the entry fee money will be donated to Breast Cancer research.  Jean Conway has played excellent golf this season.  Playing off 22 Jean had a winning score of 31 points.  Throughout this year Jean O Donovan has featured in these Notes.  Some nice wins but a hell of a lot of seconds!   Playing off 29 Jean had a score of 25 points to finish second.  In third the Get Into Golf Co-Ordinator Una Mulligan playing off 25 had 24 points to take the third spot.  Una has also appeared regularly in these Notes.

Ger Curran back on the Winning Trail!  The ongoing October 9 hole competition was kindly sponsored by Stella Kinsella. With two cards to count the lucky winner was Ger Curran playing off 15 with a lovely score of 32 points. Beaten into second on the countback we had our Lady Captain Nora Flynn who also plays off a handicap of 15.  In third we had our incoming Lady Captain Bridget Blackwell playing off 14 with a score of 28 points.  Well done Ladies.

Sharon Madden on the Mark in the Get Into Golf Nine Hole! Sharon Madden has been playing lovely golf throughout the season.  A great hitter of the ball, Sharon enjoyed a fine win in the recent Nine Hole competition for the Get Into Golf players.  I predict that the current group of Get Into Golf players will feature regularly in next year’s Notes.

Information Meeting:  This coming Thursday November 9th  members are invited to an Information meeting which will take place in the Clubhouse at 7.30pm

Annual General Meeting:  All Members please note that the Annual General Meeting will take place in the Clubhouse on November 22nd.
