West Waterford Golf Club News – w/c 14th July 2025
President’s Prize to Gents and Ladies, presented by Ciara Donnelly
Next weekend, Ciara Donnelly will have the honour of presenting her President’s Prize to both the Men and Ladies of the club. Ciara made history last November when she became the first woman to be elected President of the club.
Many members will be aware of the numerous roles Ciara has taken on in the club over the years — from Lady Captain, Secretary & Competition Secretary of the Ladies Club, mentor. More recently, she has fulfilled the role of Secretary of the Management Committee, and now as President of our club. However, it’s fair to say that few truly grasp the extent of Ciara’s tireless work behind the scenes. A recognised expert in the rules and regulations of golf, a go-to source for navigating club software systems, and above all, someone who always offers a respectful word and a warm smile to everyone she meets at the club.
This weekend presents an opportunity for all members to show their appreciation for Ciara’s exceptional contribution to the club.
The Gents’ competition will be played over two rounds (36 holes), with Round 1 taking place on Friday 18th and Saturday 19th July. The top qualifiers will compete in Round 2 on Sunday 20th July. The Ladies’ competition will be played over 18 holes on Sunday 20th July.
To take part in this year’s President’s Prize, please ensure your name is on the relevant timesheet — located either on the corridor noticeboard or in the Ladies’ locker room.
We extend our best wishes to Ciara and her family for a most enjoyable and memorable weekend.
Revive Active ladies’ team bows out to Tramore
On Sunday evening last, our Revive Active Ladies fourball team took on Tramore Golf Club in round 2 of the competition. Unfortunately, after a great battle, they bowed out of the competition. Well done to Mary Lou & Aisling, Margaret & Marie, Denise & Mary, Joanne & June and Finola and Ciara for representing the club.
In Memory of Mary Spratt
At the time of writing, we learn of the sad passing of Mary Spratt. Mary was a cherished and highly respected member of our club, whose recent efforts played a vital role in revitalising our Junior Club. Her dedication, warmth, and presence will be greatly missed. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Justin, her family, and friends during this difficult time.
