West Waterford Golf Club News – w/c 11th August 2025

Lady Captain’s Weekend a Resounding Success

Last weekend, the ladies of West Waterford Golf Club gathered to celebrate the Captaincy of Geraldine Hickey. Geraldine, who graciously stepped into the role at short notice last November, has poured her heart and soul into the position, and being a dedicated and hard-working Lady Captain.

On Friday and Saturday, the competition for the Lady Captain’s Prize was played out under glorious sunshine. Spirits were high and the atmosphere was one of good-natured rivalry and craic.

Following two days of keenly contested stroke play, Eithne Ashby emerged as a very popular winner. Having narrowly missed out in last year’s event, Eithne made certain of her victory this time, securing the title by an impressive four shots ahead of Joan Sheehan. One of the loudest cheers of the evening was for Phil Kelly, whose fine play earned her third place with a net score of 143.

The celebrations continued Saturday night in the clubhouse, where members enjoyed the Lady Captain’s Dinner and prize-giving ceremony, marking the occasion as one to remember.

Geraldine expressed her heartfelt thanks to all who helped her organise her special weekend, to all those who took part and to those who generously supported her chosen charity, Dungarvan Community Hospital. All the prize-winners warmly commended Geraldine on a memorable weekend – and for arranging the perfect weather.

Players like Anthony O’Donnell, Conor Keane, Ruben O’Brien, and the Murphy brothers, Daniel and Jayden, will be ones to watch… but in this competition, you never know, there is very often a surprise winner, which is part of the fun of this great competition!

Best of luck to everyone playing – may your drives be straight, your putts be true, and most importantly, may you have loads of fun out there!
