Happy New Year!!!

On behalf of everyone in West Waterford GC, we wish our members and their loved ones a happy, healthy and peaceful 2024.

Captain’s Drive-in

On Sunday 7th January at 1.30pm, in frosty conditions, a large crowd gathered around the first tee to watch our President and three Captains for 2024 get the golfing year underway. First up was President Jim Moroney, who set the tone by sending a brightly coloured red ball down the middle of the fairway. Men’s Captain Niall Colleran and Lady Captain Bridget Blackwell followed Jim with solid hits. Lastly, Junior Captain Anthony O’Donnell stepped up as cool as you like and hit a great drive also. Not a nerve shown between the four of them! It was then out of the cold and back to the clubhouse where tasty refreshments were served up. A great afternoon was had by all and we wish our President and three Captains every success in the year ahead.

Seamus Power back in action!

The PGA Tour season got underway last week with a signature event, The Sentry in Hawaii. Thanks to his place in last year’s FedEx Cup Top 50, Seamus took his place in the prestigious field. The scoring was outrageous with players taking advantage of the benign conditions, with American Chris Kirk finally coming out on top on -29. Seamus never really got going over the first three days but carded a solid -6 on Sunday to finish in T50th on -12. Next week, the tour stays in Hawaii for the Sony Open and Seamus is once again in the field. We all wish him the best of luck!

Fantasy Golf 2024

71 players signed up for our inaugural Fantasy Golf League. The league will run for the first 10 tournaments of the 2024 PGA Tour season. First up was The Sentry, a signature event with a smaller field and no halfway cut, so a relatively easy beginning. When rosters locked in at the start of play it was obvious it is going to be a very competitive league! The same players kept cropping up time and time again. At the end of The Sentry, Peter Cummins leads on 431pts, but is only 4pts ahead of Donagh on 427pts with PBDaly a further 4pts behind on 423pts. In all, 23 players have 400pts or more. Next up it’s The Sony Open, a regular tournament with a cut. Best of luck to all!

Drive in

Despite the frost we had a great turnout on Sunday 7th for our Captains Drive in and a lovely social afternoon in the clubhouse. We wish President Jim Moroney, Captain Niall Colleran, Lady Captain Bridget Blackwell and Junior Captain Anthony O’Donnell the best of luck for their year ahead.

Men’s Notes

Men’s Winter League 2024

The weather gods just will not give us a break!!! If it’s not rain, it’s frost and the course has remained closed for the majority of the Christmas period. Week 8 of the league was the week ending 31st Dec and just 6 league scores were recorded with Thomas Foley coming out on top with 30pts after a countback. Then, there were only 2 scores recorded in Week 9, so it has been decided to count these scores in with Week 10. Team L have taken the lead thanks to Thomas’  fine score above but, needless to say, there is a lot of golf to be played if we can only get out and play it! Best of luck to all for week 10 in any case!

Men’s Fixtures 8-14 Jan

All Week 13 hole Singles S/F in conjunction with Winter League Wk 10

Please note the following Winter Rules in play for the duration of the Winter period:
