Seamus Power back in action!
After an injury affected end to 2023, Seamus is returning to action in Hawaii this week for the opening event of the 2024 PGA Tour, The Sentry. It is a testament to just how well Seamus had been doing in the early part of last year that he takes his place in this exclusive field as one of the top 50 in the 2023 FedEx Cup standings. All of us in West Waterford wish Seamus the very best of luck for the week and year ahead and will be watching and supporting all the way!
Captain’s Drive-in
On Sunday 7th January at 1.30pm, Men’s Captain Niall Colleran, Lady Captain Bridget Blackwell and President Jim Moroney will hold the traditional drive-in to kick off the golfing year. All members are invited to attend this special event.

Fantasy Golf 2024
With the winter weather not being very conducive to actual golf for many, there is absolutely no excuse not to play a bit of Fantasy Golf!! The inaugural Fantasy Golf League will be run over the first 10 tournaments of the 2024 PGA Tour season beginning on January 4th with the The Sentry Tournament, where our own Seamus Power will be playing. Pick your roster of 4 starters and 2 bench players before each tournament and follow your progress in the weekly league table. Open to all, get your family and friends involved and have fun competing for bragging rights! Just a few days left to enter for €10.

Men’s Notes
Men’s Winter League 2024
With the unsettled weather unwilling to let up, week 7 was another somewhat quiet week in the Winter League. In all, 15 league scores were recorded with the winner being the consistent Shane Hanrahan with an outstanding 33pts. Team M also had a fruitful week, moving up 4 places to take 1st place on the Team Leaderboard. Next week’s notes will have a double week update, weeks 8 and 9. Good luck to all players.

Winter Rules
Please note the following Winter Rules in play for the duration of the Winter period:
- Place on the ground within 6 inches on Fairway & Rough.
- Bunkers: Out of play until further notice*. Drop outside bunker at nearest point of relief, not nearer the hole
- Buggies are not permitted on the course until further notice*
- *Keep an eye on the noticeboard and BRS for updates in relation to Bunker and Buggy status
Note: Given the soft ground conditions, a temporary rule is in place allowing players a free drop if a ball cannot be found in open ground, in agreement with playing partners.
Junior Academy News
The Junior Leadership team are meeting on Thursday 4th January to plan out the year ahead. A presentation of all outstanding 2023 prizes will take place later in January, with notice being given via the WhatsApp groups.
