2024: A Year of Progress and Community at West Waterford Golf Club
As we reflect on 2024, it was a year that proved to be a vibrant and eventful for West Waterford Golf Club, marked by significant progress and achievements across all facets of the club. Nestled in the scenic Coolcormuck Valley, the club’s championship course, crafted by the renowned Irish golf architect Eddie Hackett, continued to deliver a challenging yet rewarding experience for golfers of all levels.
While the year began with challenging weather conditions, the club’s unwavering commitment to excellence shone through. Thanks to the dedication of the greenkeeping staff and the invaluable efforts of volunteers, the course remained in immaculate condition, with tees, fairways, and greens maintained to the highest standards. The substantial improvements to the course this year are a testament to the collaborative spirit that defines West Waterford Golf Club.
Throughout the year, the club’s activities were driven by the enthusiasm and leadership of Captains Niall Colleran and Bridget Blackwell, and President Jim Moroney, along with the men’s and ladies’ committees and the management committee. A packed calendar of events and tournaments fostered camaraderie and friendly competition among members. Among the standout moments were the respective Captains’ Prizes, claimed by Martin O’Driscoll and Geraldine Hickey, the hosting of Golf Ireland Regional finals, the reintroduction of the beloved mixed foursomes matchplay and the Men’s Senior Scratch Cup, and the ever-popular annual Lions Club fundraiser. Held just before Christmas, this festive event showcased the club’s charitable ethos and brought the community together for a meaningful cause.
Special thanks also to all those sponsors who supported our activities this past year. Their support is highly valued and appreciated by club members. We would encourage our members and friends to remember these sponsors as you go about your business in 2025.
Beyond the fairways, West Waterford Golf Club continued to enhance its role as a cornerstone of the Dungarvan area’s leisure and tourism offerings. Its picturesque setting and meticulously maintained course have attracted both local enthusiasts and visiting golfers, further cementing its reputation as one of the premier parkland courses in the South-East of Ireland.
As the year ends, the club reflects on 2024 as a year of growth, community engagement, and shared enjoyment of the game. Looking ahead to 2025, West Waterford Golf Club is excited to welcome incoming Captains Shane Hanrahan and Geraldine Hickey, along with President Ciara Donnelly, who are poised to lead the club into another promising year. With plans to host more events and continue enhancing the golfing experience, the club is set to build on this year’s successes. For West Waterford Golf Club, 2024 was not just a year of achievements but also a celebration of the vibrant community spirit that makes the club a cherished part of the region.
