All Set For 30 Year Celebrations!!
Our 30 year celebrations begin on Thursday 24th August and run through to Saturday September 2nd. A celebration Open Classic will run for the entire week and all members and their friends are invited to play. As always in West Waterford, Visitors to our club will be made most welcome and we extend a friendly invitation to all. Kindly sponsored by The Old Bank and Tirlán, there are some excellent prizes on offer, including a draw for free 2024 membership. Save the dates and let’s make this a celebration together to remember!
President’s Prize Presentation Ceremony
On Saturday Evening, 26th August at 8pm, President Jim Moroney will hold his presentation ceremony in the clubhouse. All support for our hardworking and popular President would be greatly appreciated on what promises to be a wonderful night of celebration. Congratulations Jim on a fantastic year, you deserve a great evening.

The Intermediate Scratch Cup was a tightly contested affair. In blustery conditions, the consistent Shane Hanrahan prevailed with a great score of 80, just beating the wily old Jimmy Murphy into 2nd place on a countback. Following on from his win last week, Denis Conway took third prize with 81, and a man who’s having an outstanding year, Captains Prize Winner Frank North took the best Nett with an excellent 67. Congrats to all men!

The Minor Scratch Cup proved to be more one-sided, with the evergreen and effervescent Percy Walsh running away with it by 4 clear strokes with an 89! Brian Flynn beat Ronan Foley into 3rd and Tony Shalloe took the best Nett with a creditable 70. Once again, congratulations to all the winners and thank you to The Mooorings for sponsoring the prizes.

Women’s Notes
Trish O Shea Cruises to Victory: Throughout the season Trish O Shea has been playing very consistent golf and on Sunday Trish returned a super score of 41 points playing off 36 to win the Coach House, Kilmacthomas sponsored 18 hole competition. Trish, a cycle on the Greenway and a stop at the Coach House beckons! In second place we had Golfer of the Year contender Eithne Ashby who brought in a good 37 points playing off 26. Eithne beat another Golfer of the year contender Jean Conway into third place who also had 37 points playing off 23. Thanks to the Coach House for sponsoring.
30 Years on the Go Classic: Commencing on Thursday next August 24th the 30 Years on the Go classic commences and runs through to Saturday September 2nd. Kindly sponsored by The Old Bank Restaurant and Tirlan the event will be a 3 Person team event played in a Waltz format. The Entry fee is €90 per team with a charge of €20 per person re-entry. There are great prizes on offer including a chance to win a free membership for 2024 for all participants. Phone 058-43216

30th Anniversary Celebrations: On Sunday September 3rd West Waterford celebrates it’s 30th birthday. To co-incide with the celebrations the Ladies club are running our annual Bernie Twomey competition. Bernie served as our first Lady Captain, a position she held for two years and was the driving force behind the formation and progression of the Ladies Club in West Waterford. Please put your name up for the competition.

Junior Academy News
There is a big week ahead to end the Summer for our Junior Academy. Firstly, 6 of our Cadets will travel to Dundrum in Co. Tipperary for the third round of the Golf Sixes League.
Then on Friday 25th August, as part of our 30 Year Celebrations, the final round of the Deise Junior League takes place in West Waterford. The league has been a great success this year with Juniors getting the opportunity to play some wonderful courses throughout the county. A closing ceremony will take place in the clubhouse from 8pm for everyone who can be there.
Finally, a big thank you to the parents and guardians who have travelled long distances this year supporting our young golfers.
