Get Ready for Captain Michael Cass’ Prize!
Our esteemed 2023 Captain, Michael Cass, is holding his prize from Friday 23rd to Sun 25th June. Friday and Saturday will be qualifying days. The timesheets for the qualifying rounds are located in the clubhouse and names can also be added by calling the office, with the draw for playing partners taking place on Wednesday 21st June. The 9-hole to Ladies will take place from 3pm on Saturday also. Then, on Sunday 25th, the top 36 players will duel it out for the main prize. The presentation of all prizes will take place on Sunday 2nd July in the clubhouse and a great night is promised for all! It will be a big weekend for Captain Michael, so please endeavour to give your support by playing one of the days. It will be greatly appreciated.

The weekend Monthly Medal, kindly sponsored by The Old Bank, was a stroke play event where only the best golfers flourished. On top of the pack was the in-form Richard O’Gorman shooting a flawless 67 to win by 4 clear strokes. There was a great battle for 2nd with Shane Hanrahan beating our Captain Michael Cass on a countback. The steely Clive Cooney took the gross with an excellent 77. Congratulations to all men!

Ladies Notes
Mary Fahey continues Winning Streak in Joan Curran Memorial: Mary Fahey played super golf on Sunday bringing in 40 points playing off 32. Our hardworking Vice Captain Bridget Blackwell also had a good day taking second place with 38 points playing off 29. Mary Lou Carroll is becoming a regular in the Gross Prize winners category. It was lovely to see Joan Sheehan back on the podium. Displaying all her old flair Joan had 38 points playing off 26. Mary Donnelly, a regular prizewinner won Cat A with 33 points playing off 23. Jean O Donovan has won a lot of prizes this year and took Cat B with 35 points playing off 28. Former Captains Prize winner Suzanne Dalton returned to form with a good 36 points playing off 36 to win Cat C while the golfing legend Reena McDonnell enjoyed a popular win in Cat D. Christine Fogarty is a very promising player and was a deserving winner of the Get Into Golf category. On behalf of our Lady Captain Nora Flynn I would like to thank Michael Curran and family for their very generous sponsorship. It is so lovely to remember such a special lady.
A Very Good Score wins the Cloyne Pharmacy sponsored Open 3 Ball! On Thursday last there was a good entry in our Open 3 Ball competition. The winning trio were Maeve Morrissey from Dungarvan and Una Mulligan and Ger Curran from West Waterford. They burned up the course with a massive 77 points. We had visitors from Tipperary Golf Club Claire Ryan, Ann Power and Kathleen O Dwyer. They enjoyed their visit to West Waterford as they had 74 points which guaranteed them second place.. In third place Mary Lou Carroll, Margaret O Sullivan and Nora Flynn played very tidy golf to take third with 73 points. Many thanks to the Sponsors Dermot Twomey and Cloyne Pharmacy.
Monday Mixed Scramble provides plenty of Entertainment: Played every Monday evening over 9 holes the Mixed Scramble is a most enjoyable affair. Last Monday Golf Aces Mark Kuhne, Joan Nugent and Richie Quealy took the honours. Hot on their heels were Terry O Callaghan, Marian Hilliard and Mairead Criostoir. Please come to the Clubhouse at 6pm on Monday evenings to take part in the fun scramble.
Get Into Golf Scramble: On Tuesday evening Una Mulligan organised a very successful Get Into Golf scramble. Leading the way were Nuala Condon, Doireann Cotter, Martina Coonan and Una Mulligan. In second place we had Aoife O Dwyer, Marietta Moore and Mary Lou Carroll while we had a dead heat for third between Teresa Ahearne, Christine Fogarty and Nora Flynn who were joined by Heather Foley, Marcella Scanlon and Jackie Manning. Remember where you read these names first!
Cass & Co 18 Hole Competition: This week we have an 18 hole stableford competition kindly sponsored by Stephen Cass, proprietor of the popular Cass & Co Café, Deli and Gourmet Foods. The competition can be played on either Thursday or Sunday and counts for GOY points.
Mens Captains Prize Week End: On behalf of our Lady Captain Nora Flynn and all the Lady members I would like to wish Michael Cass the very best of luck next weekend when he stages his much anticipated Captains Prize. It should be great fun.

Junior Academy News
A big turnout of Juniors and Cadets played on Saturday evening. The weather was lovely and everyone had great fun. The Cadets continued to practice for the first Golf Sixes event being held on July 7th in West Waterford. This will be the first of 4 league fixtures throughout the Summer where we will be travelling to three courses in Tipperary.
Our Juniors took part in a weekly competition and as always it was a close affair. Celebrating his first handicap, Jack Godsil took 1st prize with a super score of 22pts. In second, another new handicap man, Kieran Murphy scored 19pts beating Ross Kavanagh into 3rd. The gross was won by Conor Keane with a great score of 12pts.
On Wednesday next, a number of our Juniors will travel to neighbouring Dungarvan GC for the first round of a Deise Junior League event. Best of luck to all those travelling.
It will be a busy Summer ahead with inter-club leagues organised throughout June, July and August. Parents will be kept informed of all the dates on the WhatsApp group.

FBD Insurance Open Qualifier Series
Our FBD sponsored Open Series for Ladies and Gents continues every Wednesday and Friday throughout the Summer. The final takes place on Friday September 15th with a trip to Trump Doonbeg, Dromoland Castle and Galway Bay for the overall winner.
