Easter Open Scramble

West Waterford GC is holding an Easter Open 3-ball Champagne Scramble running from Friday 29th March to Monday 1st April. The cost is €25 per person for visitors and €10 per person for members. Everyone is invited to take part in this season opening competition.

Get into Golf Men and Ladies

Rules Awareness Night

On Tuesday 12th March, a large crowd attended what was an excellent presentation on the Rules of Golf by Kevin Murray and Marian Arnold of Golf Ireland. All present received some valuable knowledge and left with a better understanding of the rules overall. 

Seamus makes Players Cut!

At golf’s so-called fifth major, Seamus made another cut at Sawgrass to continue his recent run of improved form. An awful day on Saturday knocked him back to the back of the field. However, a strong -3 on Sunday left him in a tie for 64th place to keep his FedEx Cup points total ticking over for the year.

Women’s Notes

Winter league 

Following a committee meeting, it has been decided to extend the return of the Winter league cards to Thursday 21st. There will be no match play round. 

Get into golf golfers : Three cards must be submitted by Thursday 21st with 3 bonus points for 4 or more cards

Winter league final Sunday 24th March. Tee times 12.30 to 2.30pm is now open for booking. 

3 out of 4 scores to count and bonus points for gigs that play on the day.

Presentation will be on Sunday 24th, time to be confirmed.

Men’s Winter League 2024

After a long wet winter, the 2024 Winter League has reached the semi-final stage. The quarter finals were all close affairs, and we now have four very worthy teams in the semi-finals. The line-up is as follows:

Team L vs Team B

All matches must be completed by Monday March 18th, with the Grand Final due to take place the following Sunday March 24th. All match results to be communicated to Team Captains and updated on the sheet on the notice board.

Winter Rules

Please note the following Winter Rules in play for the duration of the Winter period:

  • Place on the ground within 6 inches on Fairway & Rough. 
  • Bunkers: Out of play until further notice*. Drop outside bunker at nearest point of relief, not nearer the hole
  • Buggies are not permitted on the course until further notice*
  • *Keep an eye on the noticeboard and BRS for updates in relation to Bunker and Buggy status

Note: Given the soft ground conditions, a temporary rule is in place allowing players a free drop if a ball cannot be found in open ground, in agreement with playing partners.

Junior Academy News

The first Junior days of the year will begin during the Easter school holidays. Cadets will kick off on Saturday evening 23rd March at 5pm with Juniors starting on Tuesday 26th at 10am. The full schedule will be communicated to parents next week following a Junior Leadership meeting on Tuesday 19th March.
