Men’s Captains Prize (Niall Colleran)

Popular 2024 Men’s Captain, Niall Colleran, held his much coveted prize over three days this past weekend. A qualifying 18 holes was played on Thursday or Friday, followed by the final on Saturday for the top 50 players. While the weather could have been better, a super turnout braved the wind and showers and in the end produced some wonderful golf. The play on Saturday was followed by the presentation ceremony, where Captain’s Prize specialist, Martin O’Driscoll, was on hand to claim first prize with an excellent score of 140 in the tough conditions. It was lovely to see so many of Niall’s immediate and extended family present on the night, and his brother Ger, who won the visitors prize, spoke some lovely words of how they are all very proud of Niall’s achievement. Once all the prizes were presented, an evening of live music was enjoyed by all with drinks and finger food served by The Food Doc. On behalf of everyone in West Waterford, I would like to congratulate Niall on a lovely evening and thank him for all the hard work he has put in this year.

Pinehurst Disappointment For Seamus

After battling bravely for two days on the difficult Pinehurst No.2 Course, Seamus missed the cut in the 2024 US Open by 2 strokes with a total of +7. There was further Irish disappointment on Sunday evening when Rory McIlroy agonisingly missed out by a shot to winner Bryson DeChambeau in what was a thrilling conclusion.

Seamus must now dust himself off as he plays another big event this week. He tees it up in the final signature event of the season, the Traveler’s Championship. A high finish will see Seamus consolidate his position in the FedEx Cup rankings and push for the coveted top 50 who qualify automatically for next year’s big events.
