Senior and Junior Scratch Cups

On a sunny Sunday 23rd June, West Waterford GC hosted our annual Senior and Junior Scratch cups. This year’s association with Topgolfer.ie and Sheridan’s of Waterford proved to be a great success with the participants thoroughly enjoying the day. West Waterford is a tough challenge off the blue tees, but some fine scores were still produced by the prize winners listed below:

Senior Scratch Cup Result

1st Edward Farr (Monkstown) 75

2nd Diarmuid Henley (Gold Coast) 77

3rd Eoin Brackett (Dungarvan) 78

Junior Scratch Cup Result

Presidents Prize 2024 (Jim Moroney)

Our 2024 President, Jim Moroney, will host his President’s Prize this week. A qualifying round is to be played on either Friday 28th or Saturday 29th with the leading players going through to the final on Sunday 30th June. Jim is an ever present fixture in the golf club, always on hand for anything that’s required of him. He does untold work, in his own quiet, unassuming way, and while I’m sure he does all this without any expectation of gratitude, I sincerely hope Jim gets the support of the members for his big weekend. On behalf of all West Waterford members, I wish Jim and his family all the best for the coming weekend.

Senior Cup Team

Following their recent victory over Faithlegg GC, our Senior Cup Team travelled to Douglas GC on Saturday 22nd June for round 2. Due to unavailability of two original team members, subs were drafted in and certainly didn’t let the team down. The team overcame our neighbours Gold Coast GC in an epic battle, by a margin of 3 points to 2 on the 19th hole. This qualified them for the Quarter final, again in Douglas on Sunday 23rd June, where they were unfortunately defeated by a strong Tramore team. However, the team (pictured) deserve huge congratulations on their play and in bringing West Waterford some long-awaited Interclub success.

Another Solid Week For Seamus

In the final Signature event of the 2024 PGA Tour season, The Traveler’s Championship, a strong Sunday round of -7 saw Seamus climb into a share of 20th place. This leaves him in 62nd place in the FedEx Cup standings. The top 70 qualify for this year’s end of year playoffs and Seamus will be hoping to consolidate this position in the coming weeks. Best of luck to him from all in West Waterford.

Boys U18 Interclub 2024

On Sunday 23rd June, in a sunny Youghal GC, a team of 5 boys (pictured below) represented West Waterford as one of 9 clubs from the region on the day. The format was an 18 hole singles round, with the best 3 scores counting for the team. Playing Youghal for the first time, the team played great golf and scored a combined total of 106pts. While this wasn’t  good enough to qualify, the boys all represented the club with distinction and should be very proud of themselves. A big thank you to the boys and parents who travelled on the day.

Deise League Waterford Castle

On Tuesday 25th June, we travel to Waterford Castle GC for the first fixture in the 2024 Deise League. Parents travelling are reminded to arrive at least 45 minutes prior to their boys allotted tee time due to the ferry to the island. Best of luck to everyone travelling on the day.
