Ladies Notes
Jean O Donovan continues Winning Streak: The Interlude Restaurant sponsored competition is a firm favourite on the golfing calendar in West Waterford. On Thursday Jean O Donovan booked her table by winning the competition with a very nice score of 35 points playng off 29. Jean is playing super golf this year. It was nice to see Denise Nugent playing off 23 taking second place with 34 points. In third place we had the always consistent Mary Lou Carroll playing off 17 with 33 points. Well done ladies – all these points count for the Golfer of the Year league. Many thanks to our sponsor Susan Denn, Interlude restaurant.
Get Into Golf Scramble throws up interesting results: On Friday evening Una Mulligan, co-ordinator of the Get into Golf programme arranged a fun scramble for the participants. As you all know there is no such thing as a “fun” scramble! The competitive edge always wins out! There was a very close finish with Mary French, Lorna Behan and Therese Troy winning on a countback from Frances Carroll, Michelle O Donovan and Teresa Ahearne. All participants later retired to the sun drenched balcony to discuss missed shots and good shots!
Challenge Cup Team Go down Fighting: Despite the forecast we had very pleasant weather on Sunday afternoon in West Waterford when our Challenge Cup team were narrowly defeated in their second round match against Mitchelstown. Aine Parks retained her unbeaten record while the next three matches went down to the wire but went Mitchelstown’s way. Ger Curran was one up on the 18th when called in. It was an afternoon of Might Have Beens! Special thanks to the Team Manager Una Mulligan who, as always was encouraging and helpful to the team members. Special thanks to the long suffering caddies!
Junior Foursomes team travel to the Gold Coast: On Sunday next June 21st our Junior Foursomes team managed by June Whyte play the Gold Coast in the Gold Coast. Best of luck to all the team. Please come out and support.

Junior Academy News
On Saturday evening 13th May, despite competition from the hurling match in Thurles, a number of dedicated junior golfers played in the lovely Summer sunshine. Our J3’s continue to submit cards for handicaps and just a reminder to put all eligible cards in the Orange box beside the computer terminal.
Results are flying in for the Adult/Junior Matchplay, with some very impressive performances so far. There are still a couple of Round 1 matches outstanding, so these must be completed as soon as possible. The competition really starts to heat up in Round 2, where the deadline is Sun 11th June. Good luck to all remaining pairs!
Seamus and Gary News
Seamus Power continued his consistent form this week at the Byron Nelson in Dallas where he shot an outstanding -19 total for a tie for 19th place. Yet another Top 20 finish for the West Waterford man, and he moves up to 12th in the FedEx Cup standings! He will be hoping for more of the same consistency at this week’s PGA Championship, the second major of the year. All our best wishes go to Seamus for the week ahead.
Gary Hurley had a disappointing week at the Soudal Open in Belgium where rounds of 73 and 77 saw him miss the half-way cut. He now has a break before the KLM Dutch Open on May 25th.
FBD Insurance Open Qualifier Series
Our FBD sponsored Open Series for Ladies and Gents continues every Wednesday and Friday throughout the Summer. The final takes place on Friday September 15th with a trip to Trump Doonbeg, Dromoland Castle and Galway Bay for the overall winner.
