We had a fantastic entry last weekend for our annual mixed open 18-hole competition, generously sponsored by our near neighbours, the Coolcormuck Residents’ Group. We have enjoyed a great relationship with the Coolcormuck residents over many years, and we are very grateful for their continued support. We’re delighted to now be able to offer our neighbours better facilities, with regular bar and restaurant hours, our new driving range, and one of the best golf courses in the Southeast.

Inter-Club competition representatives this week

This week, we have Nora Flynn and Ciara Donnelly representing the club in the Eileen Murphy memorial foursomes competition, run by Golf Ireland at Cork Golf Club. In addition, Marie T Curran and Denise Nugent are representing the club in the Munster section of the Golf Ireland Silver and Bronze medal competitions, to be held at Charleville Golf Club on Friday. We wish all four ladies well in representing our club.

Irish Injured Jockeys Golf Classic at West Waterford

As we close in on Wednesday, September 16th, West Waterford Golf Club and the Irish Injured Jockeys Golf Classic, the timesheet is filling up, with a small number of slots for both the 9.30am and 2pm shotgun starts. Special thanks to the various sponsors who have come on board, particularly the main sponsor Redweld Stables, Youghal, and our other key sponsors Briar Lane Stud, Uniquely, the Irish Thoroughbred Breeders Association and Noel Cummins Bookmaker.

Irish Injured Jockeys provides vital confidential support to riders coping with career-ending injuries and other personal challenges, working alongside medical experts to help get them the care they need. The event carries extra resonance locally given the club’s connections to the world of racing, with club Chairman and local trainer Paddy Corkery. Speaking to Racing TV recently, Irish Injured Jockeys General Manager Michael Higgins spoke of the charity’s work supporting jockeys through those difficult moments, underlining why fundraising days like this one matter so much to the racing community.

Teams of four can enter for €450, with proceeds going to support the charity’s work.

Friday Evening Fun Scrambles Continue

Our last Friday evening fun scramble will take place this coming Friday evening, at 5:30pm. It’s a fun evening with ‘great’ prizes, so golfers of all standards there’s nothing to be shy about. Everyone is welcome to come along for a bit of craic — whether you’re a long-time member, new to the club, or a Get into Golfer, it’s all about having fun. And you might even win a prize. Registration from 5:30pm.

From this week, our Seanóirí group are moving to Wednesday mornings at 10:30am. So, whether it’s the golf or just the tea, coffee and a few nice treats you’re after, all members are warmly encouraged to come along.

Driving Range Update

Great progress continues on our new driving range. The covered bays are now fully enclosed, and over the end of last week, and next week, the cables for electricity and Trackman will be laid on the site. The Trackman equipment itself has now landed and will be installed in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, Pat Murphy has been busy planting up the beds around the area, adding a welcome bit of colour as the facility takes shape.

A gentle reminder, if you are planning to support our “Buy a Brick” fundraising campaign, now is the time. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us closer to completing a facility that will benefit our club, our community and future generations. You can purchase a brick through the Pro Shop, by bank transfer (details in the clubhouse), or through any Management Committee member.
