Juniors Sign Off the Season in Style

Last Sunday, our Juniors gathered for their end-of-season presentations, preceded by the annual Junior/Adult Scramble, which drew a great turnout. From 1pm the club was buzzing as the pairings headed out for the shotgun start. The event is meant to be a bit of fun, giving our juniors the chance to get to know some of the adults in the club a little better. Somehow, though, it has a habit of turning seriously competitive. Maybe it’s the defending champions guarding their crown, or the player who brought along a lucky squirrel mascot. We’re told the squirrel declined to comment on its owner’s performance. Later that evening, the clubhouse was full of chatter as pairings compared scores, and the kitchen was kept very busy.

Results: Junior/Adult 9-Hole Mixed 2-Person Scramble

1st: Liam & Ruben O’Brien, 32¼ net
2nd: Paul Sarsfield & Daniel Murphy, 32⅝ net
3rd: Aisling Shanahan & Jayden Murphy, 33⅞ net

Congratulations to all the prizewinners, and to outgoing Captain Ruben, who carried his Dad to the title. Sadly, the pair will have to split up to defend it next year, as he moves out of junior category for 2027. Well done to everyone who took part, we hope you enjoyed the day.

Junior club presentations then began with certificates and medals for all the boys and girls who represented the club in Junior Sixes in 2026. Well done to you all, we are very proud of how you represented the club. Prizes were then presented for the September competitions. A special award is given each year to the Junior golfer who has excelled in improved golfing skills, co-operation with the junior committee, support for fellow junior members, and who shows the positive characteristics a golfer should display. This year the award went to Tom Halpin. A merit award was also presented to Tom’s mam, Janet, in recognition of her contribution to the Junior Club in 2026. Janet took charge of the Junior Sixes this year and was always on hand to help out. Thank you, Janet.

Finally, outgoing 2026 Junior Captain Ruben O’Brien announced that Keelan Cotter will be Junior Captain for the 2027 season. In his final address, Ruben spoke about what a great year he’d had. He thanked junior convenor Micheál Phelan, Delia Smith, Phil Kelly, Janet Halpin, the rest of the committee and the parents for their support throughout the year. We all wish Keelan a very enjoyable year in the role.

As we did last year, it will be played in mixed teams. The entry fee is €40, and you can play as often as you like, whenever suits you. Driving Range Update

Our new driving range building is nearly there. This week, the bay dividers have been a real talking point. Beautifully crafted, they depict scenes from around our own course, so even the range now feels like home. Have a look and see if you can recognise the locations. The risk now is you may find yourself admiring the artwork rather than hitting balls.

If you are planning to support our “Buy a Brick” fundraising campaign: now is the time. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us closer to completing a facility that will benefit our club, our community and future generations. You can buy a brick through the Pro Shop or by bank transfer (details are in the clubhouse).

A sincere thank you to everyone who has donated, volunteered or supported the project in any way. We simply could not have come this far without you.
