In Memory of Our Dear Friend Jean O’Donovan
There is deep sadness across West Waterford Golf Club this weekend as we mourn the passing of our dear friend and esteemed club member, Jean O’Donovan.
Jean was a long-standing and deeply committed member of our club. Over the years, she gave generously of her time and energy, serving in many roles within the Ladies Committee, and as Lady Captain in 2019. More recently, following the members’ purchase of the club, Jean once again stepped up—taking a place on the Management Committee and, following that serving as a Club Director. A loyal and dedicated member, Jean’s only wish was to see the club succeed and thrive.
She had a great love for golf and was both passionate and fiercely competitive when playing competitions. Her proudest moment came last July when she achieved a cherished goal—winning Jim Moroney’s President’s Prize to the Ladies, a moment of great joy and pride for her and her many friends.
Jean’s warm presence, sharp wit, and kind heart made her a much-loved figure around the clubhouse, where she enjoyed many a sociable drink in the company of close friends. Her character, her laugh, and her friendship will be dearly missed.
To her husband Denis, her children Aisling, Darragh, Odharna and Brónagh, and to her extended family and wide circle of friends, we extend our deepest sympathies.
Jean, will be greatly missed at West Waterford—but we’re sure you’re already walking the fairways and raising a glass in good company in heaven. May you rest in peace, dear friend.
Winter League Matchplay Final (Sponsor Comeragh Oil)
Congratulations to David Condon, who overcame James Kelly in a very tight final of this year’s Winter League Matchplay. David prevailed 1 up. Well done to both David & James on getting to the final and contesting such a tight match. Special thanks to Comeragh Oil for again sponsoring this year’s men’s Winter League series. Ladies & Gents Get into Golf
Our Ladies & Gents Get into Golf will commence with lessons on Wed. 14th May 2025. On next Wed night (7th May), there will be an information meeting at 7pm in the clubhouse.
So, if you are interested in a new hobby, some outdoor exercise, or just to meet some new friends, come along and see what its about.

Disappointing Outing for Séamus Power at CJ Cup Byron Nelson
Séamus endured a disappointing week at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson in McKinney, Texas, where rounds of 68 and 71 saw him miss the cut in what was a very low-scoring tournament. Despite opening with a solid 68, he was unable to build momentum in the second round and finished well off the pace at TPC Craig Ranch.
He will no doubt be frustrated with the result, particularly given the sharp scoring conditions and his own return from his back injury that sidelined him in January. This missed cut will come as another setback in his efforts to regain top form.
Looking ahead, Séamus is scheduled to tee it up next week at the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club in South Carolina, where he’ll be hoping to put this result behind him and kickstart a stronger run of form.
