Club AGM held this week

West Waterford Golf Club held its Annual General Meeting on Thursday night last, with a strong turnout of members in attendance. The meeting reviewed the highlights of 2025 and looked ahead to the plans for 2026.

In his outgoing address, Chairperson Jim Moroney outlined several key achievements during the past year. These included the successful completion of a major drainage project, the installation of new security fencing and CCTV, and the appointment of the club’s first PGA professional, Colin O’Gorman. Jim also paid tribute to his fellow committee members and to the many volunteers who supported the club throughout the year.

The club’s financial accounts were presented by Eoghan Drea of IFAC, who answered questions from members in attendance.

Following this, the new committee for 2026 was elected as follows:
Chairperson: Paddy Corkery
Secretary: Conor Blackwell
Treasurer: Michael Hogan
Committee Members: Ciara Donnelly, Niall Colleran, Noel Conway, Jim McGrath, Aisling Shanahan and Ronan Foley.

In his address to members, the incoming Paddy spoke of his long-standing connection with West Waterford Golf Club and its proud legacy. He said that he and his committee are passionate about the future of the club and are committed to developing it as a valued community facility for generations to come. Paddy also noted that West Waterford is widely recognised as one of the leading courses in the southeast of Ireland and said the new committee is determined to help it continue to grow and prosper.

To conclude, he emphasised the importance of support from the membership, encouraging members to invite friends to join, bring guests to open days, support the bar and restaurant when open, volunteer where possible and become involved in club projects.

Members left the clubhouse on Thursday night with a positive outlook and a shared sense of optimism for a successful year ahead.

Captain’s Drive-In – Sunday 8th February

We are delighted to invite all members to the Captain’s Drive-In at West Waterford Golf Club on next Sunday 8th February. It’s a great occasion that marks the start of what promises to be an exciting year ahead for the club.

This special day gives members the chance to come together, enjoy the atmosphere and show their support for our new officers as they begin the season: Men’s Captain Brian Fox, Ladies’ Captain Delia Smith, President Ciara Donnelly and Junior Captain Ruben O’Brien.

Your support on the day will help make it a memorable and meaningful start to the year for them all.

It promises to be a day of golf, community and good spirit, setting a positive tone for the season ahead at West Waterford Golf Club.

To book your place, please add your name on BRS. The draw for the scramble will take place on Saturday 7th February at 3.00pm. Finger food will be provided after play.

We encourage all members to come along, get involved and be part of this important club tradition.

Club Winter League sponsored by Comeragh Oil

The Comeragh Oil–sponsored Club Winter League continued last week, with little movement in the overall standings, largely due to the Open Scramble held over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Ardmore remain out in front, although Clashmore have been closing the gap over the past fortnight. With six weeks still to play, there is plenty of time for teams at the lower end of the table to improve their positions and for members who have yet to submit a card to get out on the course and contribute to their team’s score.

In the individual standings, Mark Coles continues to set the pace. He is being closely followed by Peter Hayes and Noel Conway in the nine-hole category. In the 13-hole competition, Mark Coles and Paul Kelleher remain tied at the top, with Jack O’Donnell and Brian Collins close behind.
