Special thanks go to outgoing President Ciara Donnelly for her guidance and support over the last two years of her historic presidency. Thanks also go to the two outgoing Captains, Delia Smith and Brian Fox, for their leadership in a remarkably successful year. It is believed there has never been a year in which so many new members had to be welcomed to the club. Their energy over the last twelve months was a massive factor in the club’s success and positive spirit.

Finally, on behalf of everyone at the club, we thank all those who have taken on committee roles. We know you will put your own stamp on activities in the new year, and we wish you a very enjoyable golfing year ahead.

Comeragh Oil Winter League sponsored Winter League

The teams are picked, and following some late additions and substitutions, 20 teams with over 170 members began the Comeragh Oil Winter League 2026 last Monday. A few fast starters got off the mark with some good scoring in the favourable early winter conditions. The league will run to on Saturday, 19th December, with double points on offer in the final week.

One of the league’s main attractions is its flexibility, as outlined below.

What you can do

  • Play as often as you like, whenever you like, throughout the league.
  • Play either nine holes or 13 holes on the same day.
  • Submit as many cards as you wish. Your best six (three 13-hole and three nine-hole) will count.
  • Play alongside members of any age or category. Teams are mixed across ladies, gents and juniors.

What you cannot do

  • Submit both a nine-hole and a 13-hole card for the same round.

Again, many thanks to Paddy Joe Ryan and the team at Comeragh Oil have sponsored this year’s competition, continuing a partnership that has lasted more than 30 years.

Seamus Power Pipped in Bermuda Playoff

West Waterford clubman Seamus Power was denied a third PGA Tour title on Monday, finishing runner-up to American Austin Smotherman at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship after losing a sudden-death playoff at the third extra hole. The pair finished tied on 16-under-par after three rounds at Port Royal. Strong winds, with gusts of over 40mph, forced the cancellation of Sunday’s final round, and the tournament was declared a 54-hole event. Seamus was bidding to become the event’s first repeat winner after his 2022 victory.

Seamus did not leave empty-handed, with his runner-up finish lifting him to 68th in the FedExCup standings.
