Open Week Kicks Off

Our Open Week kicked off this past weekend, with the Men’s Senior, Junior, Intermediate and Minor Scratch Cups, sponsored by The Moorings Bar & Restaurant, Dungarvan. At time of writing, there was a big entry for the popular Scratch Cup competition, with results expected Monday evening.

Upcoming competitions are:

  • Tues.4th August: Men’s Open Fourball
  • Wed.5th August: Men’s Open Singles, sponsored by Club PGA Pro, Colin O’Gorman.
  • Thurs.6th August: Ladies Open Singles (& Mná Eile Qualifier), sponsored by 360 Cookhouse.
  • Fri.7th August: 3 Person Mixed Champagne Scramble.
  • Sat. 8th / Sun. 9th August: Open Mixed Singles, sponsored by Junior Captain.

So, with the recent soft rain taking the sting out of the ground, and some decent weather forecast for the week ahead, we welcome all members and visitors to come along, enjoy the competitions, and have some fun on our wonderful golf course.

Junior Captain’s Weekend & Junior Fun and Family Day

Next weekend, 8th & 9th August, our Junior Captain, Rueben O’Brien, will hold his Junior Captain’s Prize as part of a fun weekend for our juniors.

The competition starts on Saturday, with the Junior Captain’s Prize competition itself taking place on Saturday afternoon. Juniors are reminded to enter via the WhatsApp poll or via the entry sheet on the Junior noticeboard in the clubhouse.

On Sunday 9th August, we will have a Junior Fun and Family Day. The action starts at 1:30pm and will feature plenty of activities, including the washing machine challenge, longest drive, chipping net challenge, face painting, and much more fun. This will be followed by a scramble competition for our J1, J2 and J3 groups.

After the golf activities, everyone is invited to enjoy a fun family evening, with burgers and refreshments available. Presentations of prizes will be from approx. 6:30pm.

Fingers Crossed for the Pierce Purcell Team

Our Pierce Purcell team are in Tramore GC on Bank Holiday Monday (after this is submitted), taking on Cobh GC in the Munster East final. Hoping for some good news!

Friday Evening Fun Scrambles!

Our first Friday evening scramble was a great success, with a big crowd turning up. Remember, everyone is welcome — members and newcomers alike, whether you’re a seasoned golfer or picking up a club for the very first time. The scramble format means you’re playing as part of a team, so it’s the perfect opportunity to meet other members, make new friends, and get to know the club community a little better.

Whether you’re looking to improve your game, meet new people, or simply enjoy a great evening in good company, these Fun Scrambles are for you. So grab your clubs and come along for what promises to be a brilliant summer series — Friday evenings between 5:30pm and 6pm!

The Seanóirí will also continue at 10:30am each Monday, with entry just €5, including tea and coffee in the clubhouse afterwards. All members are warmly encouraged to take part.

Buy a Brick — Youth Academy & Driving Range Continues to Progress

Many of you will have seen the digging from the clubhouse, around the putting green, and up to the 10th tee box this week. Yes, it’s that man Jim again, along with his helper Michael, laying the trunking for the electricity and data cables for the driving range lights and Trackman systems. So, while the area might not be as pretty as normal, please have patience — great progress is being made.

This week, another milestone was reached in our fundraising, with the total now passing €70,000. This is fantastic support for our vision of a community driving range, and a facility that will be available not just for now, but for the next generation to come.

So, if you are planning to support our “Buy a Brick” fundraising campaign, now is the time. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us closer to completing a facility that will benefit our club, our community and future generations. You can purchase a brick through the Pro Shop, by bank transfer (details in the clubhouse), or through any Management Committee member.

A sincere thank you to everyone who has donated, volunteered or supported the project in any way. We simply could not have come this far without you.
