Championship Welcome
West Waterford Golf Club will host the Golf Ireland Munster Under-16 Boys’ Amateur Open Championship this Friday, welcoming 120 of the Irelands finest young golfers to the course. One of the premier provincial championships on the Golf Ireland junior pathway, the event is open to boys under 16 as of 1st January and is contested as a stroke play competition. With a qualifying handicap of 7 or lower, the standard is high, and strong performances here regularly inform selection for Munster provincial squads and the Golf Ireland high-performance pathway. The club is proud to host what is widely regarded as an important milestone event for elite junior golfers from right across Ireland.
Inter-Club Success Continues
It has been another outstanding weekend for West Waterford’s inter-club teams, with both the Jimmy Bruen and Pierce Purcell sides recording impressive victories.
The Jimmy Bruen team got proceedings under way at home last Saturday, defeating Carrick-on-Suir Golf Club 3–1 in a convincing display. The team — Niall McNicholas, Mark Blackwell, Gary Murphy, Niall Colleran, Colm O’Callaghan, Ruben O’Brien (Junior Captain), Derek McGrath and Jack O’Donnell — will next travel to Youghal Golf Club on 26th July, where they face either Fermoy or Douglas in the last 16.
Not to be outdone, the Pierce Purcell side made the trip to Gold Coast Golf Club on Sunday, where they produced an equally impressive 3–1 victory over the home side. Despite West Waterford taking control around the turn, Gold Coast fought back admirably, pushing all four matches to the 18th hole before our lads held firm. Well done to Liam O’Brien, Richard Tobin, John P. Murphy, Conor Blackwell, David McCarthy, Paul Kelleher, Mike O’Keeffe and David Condon. The team now advances to the East Munster semi-final, to be played at home before 12th July, with Bandon Golf Club providing the opposition.
Next up for the club’s inter-club programme is the Mixed Fourball team, who travel to Cork Golf Club on Sunday, 21st June, for the East Munster quarter-final. The club wishes them every success.

The Seanóirí
The popular Monday morning fun scramble continues at 10:30am each week, with entry just €5, including tea and coffee in the clubhouse afterwards. All members are warmly encouraged to take part.
Upcoming Fixtures
The Men’s club Monthly Medal takes place this Saturday and Sunday, 20th/21st June, played off the blue tees. The Ladies’ Club 18-Hole Stableford, sponsored by The Park Hotel, runs over the same weekend.
Wednesday 17th sees the next Al Eile Qualifier, an open 18-hole singles stableford, but with no competition on Friday because of the Munster U16 boy’s championship. The Ballinameela GAA Classic takes place on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd June.
Buy a Brick — Youth Academy & Driving Range Appeal
The club’s “Buy a Brick” fundraising campaign continues, supporting the development of a new Youth Academy and Driving Range facility. Full details are available at the clubhouse notice board, the pro shop, the club website, or through any member of the management committee. This is a project that will benefit members, families, and the wider West Waterford community for years to come. The club encourages all members and supporters to get involved.
