Top 20 for Seamus in Illinois

Four excellent rounds saw Seamus finish on -19 for the week to finish in 17th place. Normally, -19 might be good enough to contend but this week the scoring at the John Deere Classic was exceptional with American Davis Thompson ending up the champion on -28. Unfortunately, Seamus’ good finish wasn’t quite good enough to see him qualify for this week’s Open Championship.

Junior Academy News

This week was a busy and successful week for our Junior golfers. Firstly, on Tuesday morning,  Rueben O’Brien continued his excellent run of form winning the 18 hole competition with 47pts. Later that evening, we welcomed David Hayes PGA to West Waterford where 17 juniors received coaching in two groups. Feedback was very positive and three more sessions are planned before the end of the Summer with the next one on Tuesday 16th July.

Then on Thursday, the second Deise League fixture was held in Dungarvan GC where four of our boys travelled and played great golf. Kieran Murphy won overall 1st prize with 35pts over 16 holes in very windy conditions, and Ross Kavanagh took 5th place with 30pts. To cap off the day, West Waterford won the team prize with the best 4 scores counting. Congrats to Kieran, Ross and Anthony O’Donnell and Rueben O’Brien who were the team on the day.

Finally, on Saturday evening, West Waterford hosted the first round of the 2024 Waterford Golf Sixes League. Three clubs (Dungarvan GC, Waterford GC and ourselves) participated in this fun event for our younger juniors and once again everyone had a great time. Thank you to the three members of The Food Doc staff who remained and looked after everybody once the golf was finished. The food was delicious as always. A special thank you to the parents, mentors and, of course, the team of six players who represented our club on the day (photos below). Next up in the Golf Sixes, we make the trip to Tipp on Thursday 11th July for a regional Interclub. Best of luck to all travelling.
