Joan Curran Memorial Competition

On Sunday last we held one of the more popular competitions in the calendar in memory of the late Joan Curran, who is always remembered as a very popular lady captain and trojan worker, who was so dedicated to our club and to the game of golf.

This was evidenced by the large entry for the competition with the coveted trophy and lovely prizes presented by the Curran family. Joan’s husband Michael and the Curran family were welcomed to the presentation and it was great to see our lady members out in such numbers to see who was lucky enough to make it to the podium. Memories were exchanged on the day as well as many antidotes of Joan’s time playing golf. Joan’s daughter Geraldine took part in the competition and her daughter Megan welcomed the ladies participating on the day.

Joan would be delighted to see that her son Mike has now joined her daughter Geraldine playing golf as well as her grandchildren Mick,Ollie and Lily. We look forward to seeing them progress over the coming years.

Junior Academy News

On Monday last, 5 of our boys travelled to Faithlegg GC for round 3 of the Deise league. Despite the wet conditions, everyone enjoyed the trip on a fantastic layout. The coaching session planned for 1pm unfortunately had to be cancelled due to the weather but will hopefully take place at a future event. Thankfully, the weather was better on Tuesday evening, however, and David Hayes once again took coaching with 2 groups of our Juniors. Everyone is learning from these lessons and thank you to David for giving up his time to do this.

This week our Tuesday morning and Saturday evening golf continues and there is also the second fixture of the Golf Sixes League in Lismore GC at 4.30pm on Sunday 28th July.
