West Waterford Golf Club News – w/c 20^th April 2025

Easter Open, Sponsored by Dungarvan Transport.

Despite the inclement weather on Friday & Saturday, the course held up really well for our Open competitions sponsored by Dungarvan Transport this past Easter weekend. A huge thank you to Diarmuid and Tómas Horgan for their fantastic ongoing support of our club. Full results will be included in next week’s news, as competitions are still running at the time of going to press.

Club Mixed Foursomes, Sponsored by Topline Currans

Reminder that entries for the Club Mixed foursomes will close on 2^nd May. So if you are interested in participating in this fun competition, make sure you submit your names to the list in the ladies locker room, or next to the computer in the hallway.

Men’s Singles and Fourball Matchplay

We are delighted to announce that this year’s Men’s Singles matchplay is being sponsored by PestSafe Ltd. PestSafe is a local company, based in Abbeyside, who can help you with all Rodent, Ant, Wasp, Flying and Crawling Insect control. Owned by club member, Batt O’Donovan, Batt has a proven record of excellent service to businesses, clubs and homeowners in the Munster and South Leinster area. This year, we are also delighted to announce that there will be a fantastic new perpetual trophy awarded to the Club Singles Matchplay winner.

So, if you are interested in participating either the Singles matchplay or the Fourball matchplay, put your names on the sheets on the notice board before May 4^th.

Winter League Matchplay

In the Winter League Matchplay, David Condon has progressed to the final, He will meet the winner of the Clive Cooney vs James Kelly match, who is being played as this report is being submitted. Full details on that next week.

Junior News

Tara O’Donnell collects on Irish Kids Golf Tour

Congratulations to Tara O’Donnell, who finished 3^rd in the Girls U10’s 2025 Leinster Trophy, on the Irish Kids Golf Tour, played at Killeen Castle recently. Tara has been one of our stars in the Junior Club this past year, and it’s fantastic to see her doing well in this Open events.

Our Juniors have commenced the last few weeks on Saturdays, with J4s & J5sat 5:30pm , The cadets’ group, J1, J2 & J3s commence at 6pm

Séamus Power Makes Solid Return on PGA Tour

Séamus Power returned PGA Tour action last week with a strong showing at the Corales Puntacana Championship in the Dominican Republic. Opening with impressive rounds of 67 and 68, he was well placed heading into the weekend. However, a pair of more subdued rounds—71 on Saturday and 73 on Sunday—saw him finish in a tie for 18th, five shots behind eventual winner Garrick Higgo. Séamus skips this week’s Zurich Classic team event, where Masters champion Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry are set to defend their title. His next expected outing is the CJ Cup Byron Nelson in Texas, beginning on May 1st.
