President’s Prize this coming week
This coming week, we get to celebrate our Club President. While the role of President in a golf club is mostly ceremonial — acting as the public face and figurehead of the club — in Ciara Donnelly, our club’s first female President, we’ve been really fortunate to have someone who is passionate about our club, and who brings golf knowledge, experience, stability, and institutional memory to the day-to-day running of the place.
Ciara also brings a sense of calmness, understanding and empathy when others might be more rash — though her tendency to be chatty in meetings has often had to be gently curtailed.
Having almost completed the role of President for the second year of her two-year term, Ciara has fulfilled just about every role going within the club, including Lady Captain and multiple positions on both the Ladies Committee and Management Committee.
In recognition of her enormous contribution to the club, we strongly encourage all members to come out this week and support Ciara’s last President’s Prize. Proceedings for the men begin with qualifying on Wednesday 22nd, with qualifying also available Thursday and Friday — choose whichever day and time suits you best. The top 45 qualifiers will then play the final round on Saturday afternoon, 25th July. It’s a stroke-play competition off the white markers. On Sunday 26th it’s the ladies’ turn, also stroke-play. So, ladies make sure you get your names on the entry sheet in the locker room.
Presentation of prizes — and a bit of craic — will take place in the clubhouse on Sunday evening.
Ciara, thank you for everything you do for the club. We wish you a very enjoyable weekend, and hopefully you won’t get too stressed with the preparations!

Captain’s Prize to Ladies
On Sunday 19th July, Brian Fox presented his 2026 Captain’s Prize to the ladies. After some competitive golf, and very close scoring, everyone was delighted to see Marian Hilliard get her well-deserved turn of a top prize. Marian was followed closely by Jean Conway and June Whyte, with Marie T Curran also putting in a great performance.
Results:
1st Marian Hilliard, 68 nett; 2nd Joan Conway 69 nett; Gross Denise Nugent; 3rd June Whyte 69 nett.
Category A: Marie T Curran 70 net; Cat B Margaret O’Sullivan 71 nett; Cat C Mary Curran 72 nett

Ladies Outing to Ballyneety GC
On Friday last (17th July), our ladies travelled to Ballyneety GC, home of the 2027 Junior Ryder Cup, for this year’s annual ladies’ outing. Plenty of sunscreen was required as they headed off for a very enjoyable day’s golf. The writer wasn’t made privy to any results, but rumour has it that Nell Suipéil shone on the championship course, earning her team of Joan Conway and Joan Sheehan the top prize.
After golf, the ladies enjoyed the sunshine and a few 7-Ups on the balcony, before being treated to a fantastic meal by their hosts on the day. Despite a few exploring some of the highways and byways of Limerick, all made it home safely.
Special thanks to Delia and her committee for organising a lovely day out.
Inter-Club Competitions
Best of luck to our Jimmy Bruen team who take on Douglas GC in the last 16, next Sunday 26th in Youghal GC, tee off at 10:20pm. All support will be welcome
The following Bank Holiday Monday (3rd August), our Pierce Purcell team will travel to Tramore GC to take on Cobh GC in the Munster East final. Again, all support would be greatly appreciated.
Best of luck to both teams
