West Waterford Golf Club News – w/c 18th Nov. 2024
West Waterford Golfers Shine on the Professional Circuit
Last week, as we went to print, Gary Hurley was competing in the challenging DP World Tour Final Stage Q-School. With rounds of 72, 67, 73, and 70, he narrowly missed advancing to the final two rounds. Undeterred, Gary’s season continues with a busy schedule as he heads to Australia for back-to-back DP World Tour events. This week, he tees off at the BMW Australian PGA Championship in Brisbane, followed by the ISPS Handa Australian Open in Melbourne the following week.
Best of luck to Gary as he represents West Waterford on the global stage!
Meanwhile, Séamus Power returned to action on the PGA Tour at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship this past weekend. Battling challenging onshore trade winds, Séamus recorded rounds of 72, 68, 70, and an impressive final-round 65, securing a tie for 23rd place. His final round, the best of the day, offers a significant confidence boost as he heads into the RSM Classic at St. Simons Island, Georgia—the final event of the FedEx Fall series.
Currently sitting 5th in the AON Next 10 rankings, Séamus has everything to play for. A strong performance next week could solidify his position, earning him a spot in the prestigious early-season signature events for 2025.
Gents 9-for-9 Winter Singles League Heats Up
Week 4 of the Gents 9-for-9 Winter Singles League delivered another round of strong participation and impressive scores. As the competition nears its halfway mark, Stephen Walsh’s consistent form has propelled him to the top of the leaderboard, with Eddie Glavin close on his heels.
However, with only the best five weeks counting towards the final standings and both Stephen & Eddie currently posting three scoring weeks, the league remains wide open. Brian Fox, despite missing a few rounds, remains a strong contender, while Jimmy Murphy is steadily climbing and keeping the leaders in sight.
With five weeks remaining, there’s still plenty of time to complete your five scoring weeks. The league, open to both members and guests, runs until December 13, 2024. Take advantage of the unseasonably fine weather, embrace the challenge, and join the action!

Ladies Winter Aces Order of Merit gets competitive.
The Ladies Winter Aces Order of Merit has had another impressive turnout this week, and as a result, the leaderboard is tightly contested. After Week 2, Ciara Donnelly holds a slim lead over Una Mulligan, but with four weeks remaining, the standings are far from settled.
The competition remains wide open, with the top 10 players all within striking distance of the top spot. A single strong performance could propel any contender into contention.
Ladies, now’s the time to rise to the challenge! Don’t miss the opportunity to make your mark and shake up the leaderboard in the coming weeks.
