Course Maintenance

There was a lot of great work done on the golf course this week in preparation for the upcoming winter season and future projects.

Throughout the week, there was significant activity with the sanding and aeration of the fairways. This essential maintenance will greatly enhance the course’s playability during the winter months ahead, providing better drainage, firmer fairways, and an improved golfing experience. We are all looking forward to a more enjoyable winter golf season.

On Saturday, a group of volunteers completed a lot of necessary preparation work in our practice area in anticipation of some exciting projects. Stay tuned for more updates in the coming weeks. Huge thanks to everyone involved—it’s another step forward in building an exciting future for the club.

Amgen Irish Open

Last weekend, we were very proud to have two of our club members, Gary Hurley and Séamus Power, participating in the Amgen Irish Open. While we were disappointed that Gary, after rounds of 74 and 75, didn’t make the weekend cut, it was fantastic to see Séamus competing through the weekend and finishing tied for 26th with rounds of 76, 69, 71, and 71. Well done to both lads! We will continue to follow their success in the coming weeks of the season.

Gary will be in Italy for the Italian Challenge Open next week, while Séamus has a few weeks off before returning to action in October in the US.

Success for Martin O’Driscoll in All-Ireland Captain’s Prize Winners’ Competition

Martin O’Driscoll continued his successful year on the golf course this past weekend, winning the 2024 All-Ireland Captain’s Prize Winners’ Competition at Roscrea Golf Club on Sunday. Martin scored 40 points on a challenging course to top the leaderboard. A huge congratulations to Martin on his achievement, from everyone here at West Waterford.

Ladies Mná Eile Series Final

The final of the Mná Eile took place on Sunday, 15th September. Although the day began gray and misty as we teed off, it soon cleared to become a beautiful, warm, and sunny afternoon. It was wonderful to see so many ladies out on the course, especially from all the visiting clubs.

We would like to extend our thanks to our sponsors—IFAC Accountants, who sponsored the five monthly qualifiers, and Garvey’s SuperValu Dungarvan, who generously sponsored the final.
