Volunteers Enjoy Memorable Outing at Thurles Golf Club
On Bank Holiday Monday, October 28th, our dedicated team of volunteers enjoyed a well-deserved day out at Thurles Golf Club, complete with golf, good food, and plenty of fun. The outing, organized with the support of our Management Committee, Captains, and Mark Ruddy, ran smoothly and provided a great day for everyone involved. Even the weather cooperated, thanks to the captains’ planning! Special thanks to Thurles Golf Club for their warm hospitality in making the day extra enjoyable.
Gents 9-for-9 Winter Singles League Heating Up as Good Weather Continues
Golfers have been making the most of recent mild weather in the 9-for-9 Winter League, with excellent attendance and some impressive scores in the mix. The favourable ground conditions have led to top-notch play, with a dozen golfers scoring 19 points or higher in Round 2. Leading the charge was Brian Fox, bouncing back strong after a stumble on the 18th in the opening week.
With more good weather in the forecast, the league’s competition is expected to intensify as players vie for the top prize leading into the holiday season. Open to both members and guests, the league will run until December 13, 2024. Players are encouraged to join in, with the best five weeks’ scores counting toward the final standings. West Waterford Golfers Make Strides on the Professional Circuit
Gary Hurley wrapped up an impressive season at the Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final in Mallorca last week. Following a solid season on the Challenge Tour, Gary posted rounds of 70, 69, 75, and 68, placing him in a tie for 31st for the tournament and 44th overall on the tour. In an interview with Irish Golfer magazine, Gary expressed confidence in his form heading into the final stage of Q-School in Spain.
Reflecting on his approach, he emphasized the importance of balance: “Attitude is a big one, rest is a big one. You can get carried away with trying to perfect every detail on the course. I’ll take at least two days off to stay fresh for Friday. Six rounds can feel long, but I know I can do it.”. Gary, who has succeeded in Q-School before, plans to focus on staying patient, present, and following his preparation routine, hoping these strategies will help him clinch a spot on the top professional circuit.
On the PGA Tour front, there was no action for Séamus Power this past week, and he isn’t slated to play in next week’s World Wide Technology Championship in Mexico. We, however, are likely to see Séamus return at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship from November 14-17, a tournament where he previously celebrated one of his two PGA Tour victories.
