Following weeks of preparation to get the course in tip top condition our president Pat Murphy swapped the overalls for the green blazer to welcome players to the 26th presidents Prize on Friday and Saturday 16th and 17th August. Mother nature intervened to water the course on Friday morning and play got underway at 12.45. Full whites combined with some treacherous pin positions and a strong breeze ensured that it would require an exceptional performance to lay hands on the coveted trophy. While many players struggled with the testing course, Andy Hickey (6) played superbly to record 40 pts and the clubhouse lead on Friday evening. Conal O Ceallaigh was close behind on 39. Conditions were very similar on Saturday when Keith Hickman again threatened the leader only to come up one point short with 39 points. So after many years of trying, Andy Hickey would emerge as a worthy and popular winner of the President’s prize. His wife Gillian and son James were present to join in the celebrations as Andy accepted his prize amid tumultous applause at the presentation on Saturday night. All round it was a fantastic weekend at the club and we would like to thank Pat Murphy for serving two years as president. A true clubman both on and off the course. Well done Pat.
