Ladies Notes w/e Sun 30th Aug 2020

June Whyte sees the Light! On Sunday last our esteemed President Pat Murphy presented a beautiful lamp to the Ladies Club. Competition was keen, but in the end it was June Whyte who played the best golf. Playing off 19 June returned a score of 72 nett. This is June’s second major this year as, only a few weeks ago, she won the Captain’s Prize to the Ladies! It was nice to see Nora Flynn back on the podium. Playing off 28 Nora had a very good 73 nett. Deirdre Ruane is playing super golf at the moment and is in the prizes every week. Playing off 14 Deirdre had a 92 to win the gross.

In third place we had yet another in form player, Denise Nugent playing off 23 with a 76 Nett. Jo Swayne won Cat A playing off 17 with a 79 nett. Jo never plays a bad game. Marian Hilliard made a welcome return to the prize winners when she won Cat B with an 83 nett while the ever consistent Mary Herlihy playing off 31 took Cat C with 78 nett. On behalf of our Lady Captain I would like to sincerely thank Pat Murphy, who is such a stalwart of West Waterford for putting up this lovely prize.

Dalton Jewellers Matchplay: The Dalton Jewellers sponsored Matchplay is progressing nicely. The draw for the place section was made and all first round matches must be completed by the 10th September.

Brigid Blackwell Club Competition: On Thursday next Sept 3rd Brigid Blackwell sponsors an 18 Hole Stableford Competition

Bernie Twomey Memorial Competition: On Sunday next the 13th running of the Bernie Twomey memorial will be played. When West Waterford Golf Club opened in 1992 Bernie was the driving force behind the Ladies Club. She served as Lady Captain for the first two years and, up to her untimely death in September 2007, held a number of roles on the Committee. She will always be remembered for her wonderful enthusiasm and her words of encouragement to all players. On behalf of our Lady Captain Phil I would like to thank Derry and family for sponsoring this competition. It is one of the highlights of our golfing season. Please ensure that you have your name on the list as there will be a draw for partners.

Killeagh Classic: West Waterford will be a busy place next week as the very popular Killeagh Classic gets underway on Thursday and runs through to Saturday. Please phone the Clubhouse to book in a team.
