Ladies Notes w/e Sun 24th May 2020

Back on the Fairways! Monday 18th May was an important day for everyone in Ireland as Phase I of the Covid 19 Roadmap kicked in. Excitement was high out in West Waterford as Members returned. The course was in stunning condition and the arrangements to meet with the Covid-19 regulations were very simple but very effective.

On behalf of the ladies I would like to congratulate Austin Spratt, Morrie Ferncombe and all the team for the huge work that they have put in to the course in the last few months. During the lockdown Austin and Gillian kept the members informed about the course developments by posting regular photographs on Whatsapp . It was a privilege to play golf in West Waterford last week. I think we now fully appreciate what an amenity we have on our doorstep! Special mention must also go to our President Pat Murphy who has developed a ball release device which is fitted to all the Flag Holders. It is simply magic!

Thanks for the Memories! As these are the first Ladies Notes since the 30th March I would like to thank Pat Power, PRO for the mens’ section who submitted Notes every week taking us on a trip down Memory Lane. It was really lovely to read about the events and success of the club in it’s relatively short history. Thanks Pat

Ladies Golf Matters: The Ladies committee held a meeting via Zoom on Sunday evening. It was a great success and we all enjoyed the new medium of communicating. As I write these Notes the ILGU have announced that all inter-team matches have been cancelled for 2020. However at Club level ,we do intend resuming Club competitions once the Covid-19 regulations allow us to do so.

Membership: If you would like to become a member of West Waterford please contact Austin or Gillian. I can think of no better way of spending some happy hours than playing golf in the beautiful setting that West Waterford enjoys.

Sympathy: All the members were shocked last week to hear that Willie and Geri Lyon’s daughter Kathleen had died in the USA. On behalf of our Lady Captain Phil Kelly I would like to extend our sincere sympathy to Willie and Geri.
