Busy Times in Golfing Circles: We may not be playing golf but Monday 2nd November is a red letter day for Golfers throughout the world as the new World Handicap System (WHS) will be rolled out. In Ireland the governing body is Golf Ireland www.golfireland.ie . From tomorrow it will be necessary for all golfers to register and create a WHS system account to establish their individual handicap index. This can be done by going to www.golfireland.ie and look for the sign up link. You should have a current email address. Refer to your current ILGU card and use the 8 digit number plus the current PIN on the card. If you don’t have your card all your information is available on Golfnet.
On behalf of the Lady Captain Phil I would like to thank Aine Parks, our former handicap Secretary who did a lot of the ground work during the year and also our new Handicap Secretary Ciara Donnelly who is leading the implementation of this new system in West Waterford. Ciara is very ably assisted by her fellow handicap committee members Mary Herlihy, Deirdre Ruane and Denise Nugent. Well done ladies
Walk for Laura: Just over twelve months ago our Ladies Club was shocked by the sudden and untimely death of one of our youngest and brightest stars Laura Cliffe. To help fund research into SUDEP – Sudden Unexpected Death by Epilepsy, Laura’s family and friends have created a fund raising initiative. They have nominated two charities to benefit from the fundraising – Epilepsy Ireland and the Lions Club.
The fund raising challenge is to walk 23 million steps which is the equivalent distance between Dungarvan and Auckland, New Zealand. Some 56 volunteers have signed up to walk 10,000 steps per day between the 1st November and the 12th December. They hope to raise significant sponsorship which will go to Epilepsy Ireland and the Lions Club. Members are asked to donate to this very worthy fundraising cause. If you have any further queries please contact Nell Suipeal.
