All Set for Lady Captain’s Weekend: Next Friday and Saturday our esteemed Lady Captain Phil Kelly hosts her Captain’s prize in West Waterford. The Lady Captain’s competition is the pinnacle of the Golfing year and this year preparations are well underway for what is always an enjoyable week-end.
We are very fortunate in West Waterford to have Phil as our Lady Captain. Phil has been a member of the Club since 1996 and has held a number of different positions on the Lady’s Committee. Her prowess on the golf course is legendary and Phil is one of the longest hitters in the Club. She has won a number of Majors including two Presidents’ Prizes. Phil has represented the club with distinction on many occasions, but even more importantly has always been available to advise and encourage Club players.
2020 has been a particularly difficult year to be Lady Captain. However Phil’s empathy with people and her organisational skills have shone through. Phil has ensured that the Committee and members are fully compliant with all the Covid 19 protocols. Since our return to golf in June, Phil has spent endless hours in the Clubhouse, whether it is organising events and competitions or meeting and greeting members and visitors. As members we really appreciate the time and effort that Phil has put in to her role as Lady Captain. I am quite sure her husband Mick and family will be delighted when November comes and they will see more of her!
The two day stroke competition commences at 1.00pm on Friday and the Presentation will take place on Saturday evening. On behalf of all our Lady Members I would like to wish Phil and her family the very best for the week-end. Only a few more “Sleeps” before we tee off!
Denise Nugent returns a Huge Score! We are used to Denise Nugent returning good scores but this week-end in the Joan Sheehan sponsored 18 Stableford competition Denise had a cool 44 points playing off 23. Congratulations Denise on a super score. In second place we had Una Mulligan playing off 27 with 35 points. Una is another player who is playing really well at the moment. It was great to see our hardworking Lady Captain Phil Kelly fill the third spot. Playing off 27 Phil had 32 points. I think it may be a tad difficult to win the Lady Captain’s prize next week-end! Thanks Joan for your generous sponsorship.
West Waterford Players Shine in Dungarvan: it was very nice to see West Waterford players featuring last week in the Dungarvan Open Week. On Wednesday our Lady Captain Phil Kelly teamed up with Bridget Blackwell and Trish O Shea to win the Scramble. Well done Ladies!
Dalton Singles Matchplay: At this stage the Singles Matchplay is almost at the Final stage. Watch this space. There are matches to be played in the Plate Section. Please ensure that matches are played within the allocated timeframe.
