Aoife Wins the Dalton Jewellers Claret Jug: Aoife McGovern has only taken up golf quite recently but what a player she is turning out to be. Aoife played June Whyte in a thrilling Final, and following a tight match emerged a worthy winner. There is no doubt that this will not be the only time that Aoife’s name appears on the Claret Jug. Many thanks to Dalton Jewellers for sponsoring the Singles matchplay series

In the plate section the ever consistent Catherine Ruane beat Stella Kinsella in a very close match.

Denise is Queen of the 9 Hole: The final of the Queen of the 9 hole was played on Monday afternoon last. 20 players had qualified for the final. Denise Nugent who is really playing great golf emerged a worthy winner playing off 27 with 21 points. In second, following a countback was regular prizewinner Eithne Ashby with 17 points while the third slot was filled by Mary Donnelly, who never plays a bad game also with 17 points.

Final 13 Hole Comp in aid of Breast Cancer Research: We may have had one day whereby all players played in Pink but the competition in aid of Breast Cancer Research continued to be played up to the end of October. This competition received wonderful support from the members and the final figure raised was €1,150. On behalf of our Lady Captain Jean O Donovan I would like to thank all the members for contributing so generously. The in-form Denise Nugent playing off 27 finished in first place with 30 points followed by the Ruane family. Mother Deirdre playing off 16 had a great 28 points while daughter Catherine also had 28 points playing off a handicap of 19.

Year End Honours – Mary Lou wins Player of the Year: At our presentation of prizes on Monday last the Player of the Year was announced. Following a good battle throughout the year with Marie T Curran, Mary Lou Carroll emerged the deserving winner. Mary Lou has played consistently well throughout the season and was presented with the prestigious Roll of Honour plaque which has the names of so many good players in West Waterford inscribed on it.

Medals: Mary Lou Carroll also received the ILGU Silver Medal which Marie T Curran was awarded the Bronze medal. This year for the first time, a Junior Medal was awarded and the deserving recipient was Catherine Ruane

Winter League: Teams are now almost finalised for the Winter League which this year will be played over 9 holes.

On-Going Competitions: At the moment there are 2 competitions running – the 13 Hole and 9 Hole competitions

Coastal Alliance: The November Coastal Alliance will take place in The Goldcoast on this Thursday November 7th. The December Alliance will be held on December 5th in West Waterford.

Annual General Meeting: The Annual General Meeting will take place on Wednesday 20th November at 7.30 in the Clubhouse.
