Generosity to the Fore. On Sunday West Waterford hosted a scramble in aid of research for Breast Cancer. The theme was Pink and certainly all our ladies made a huge effort. You would need sun glasses in the Clubhouse! Following lengthy delibration by an esteemed panel of judges, the best costume award was won by Reena Spratt who looked resplendent dressed in Pink from head to toe including her umbrella! The winners on the course were the hot shot team of Deirdre Ruane, Geraldine Hickey and Mairead Criostoir. In second we had the ace team of Catherine Ruane, Stella Kinsella and Gerry Lyons, while the third spot was filled by three dashing ladies in Pink, Joan Sheehan, Phil Kelly and Bridget Blackwell. However the real winner on the day was Cancer Research as over €600 was raised in just one afternoon. On behalf of our Lady Captain Jean I would like to thank all the members who contributed so generously.
Fundraising to Continue: Such was the success of Sunday’s competition we are going to donate all proceeds from our October on-going 13 Hole competition to Breast Cancer research.
Dalton Jewellers Matchplay: The Club singles matchplay has come down to the final stages. The competition has been fierce, both in the competition proper and the Plate. The finalists are June Whyte and Aoife McGovern, regulars in the Winners enclosure. In the Plate section Deirdre Ruane plays Stella Kinsella, both of whom have played excellent golf throughout the season. Good luck to all the finalists.
Glanbia 18 Hole Competition: The Glanbia 18 Hole competition continues this week.
Good Win for Phil: In the September 9 hole competition kindly sponsored by Mary Herlihy, Phil Kelly playing off 26 was a well deserved winner with 40 points. The sponsor Mary Herlihy was second playing off 33 with 38 points while the consistent Deirdre Ruane playing off 16 was third with 37 points
