What a Week for West Waterford on the World Stage!

Last night as we all settled down to watch the Nine O Clock news West Waterford members were happy in the knowledge that their man Seamus Power had secured a second victory on the PGA Tour!  Played in the Port Royal course in Bermuda, Seamus held his nerve to win by one shot.  Throughout the first three days Seamus had played wonderful consistent golf returning a 65 every day.  However, in the final round, coming off Hole 11 Seamus was two down to his playing partner American Ben Griffin.  Seamus’s experience and nerve won through and a lovely Birdie on the 17th had him two up going down the last! A fabulous win.  Is a Ryder Cup place at the end of the Tunnel?  Watch this space.

Earlier in the week Gary Hurley had an emphatic win in Saudi Arabia winning by a record 17 shots!  This was a great win for Gary and certainly tees him up for an interesting season ahead.

Bridget Broderick wins Old Bank Competition:

The 13 hole ongoing competition sponsored by the Old Bank Restaurant attracted a really big entry.  All proceeds were in aid of Breast Cancer Research and over €1,600 was raised.  Bridget Broderick playing off 39 emerged a worthy winner with 29 points.  In second we had Denise Nugent playing off 23 with a very nice 28 points while the third spot was filled by Jean Conway playing off 22 with 27 points.  Well done ladies and sincere thanks to all our Lady Members who supported the competition in such large numbers

Presentation Night:

On Sunday night our esteemed Lady Captain presided over her last prize giving presentation. While most of the Prize Winners were collecting prizes for competition already reported on, there were some End of Year Accolades to be distributed! The Queen of the 9 Hole Final was won by Mary Herlihy with 19 Points.  The Queen of the Birdies for the season was Marie T Curran who accumulated 8 birdies.  Well Done Marie.  The Singles Match Player of the Year was Jean O Donovan while Una Mulligan won the Plate section.  It was really nice to see so many different players collect prizes.
